PALM SPRINGS, Calif., LabAutomation2009, Booth 327 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced it has renamed Velocity11 as Agilent Automation Solutions and selected LabAutomation2009 to introduce the new division. The company is also launching new products and applications here designed to help researchers and scientists increase productivity and decrease costs. Agilent Automation Solutions is part of the Agilent’s Life Sciences Solutions Unit.

Agilent acquired Velocity11 in late 2007 and continues its focus on automating laboratory processes by introducing the new Direct Drive Robot and VWorks Automation Control Software. The Direct Drive Robot advances high-throughput screening for drug-discovery research and can also be used in genomics applications, including DNA extraction and PCR sample preparation. The direct drive technology combined with powerful VWorks software enables best-in-class automation solutions.

“Our name has changed, but our commitment to help our customers automate workflows has never been stronger,” said Rob Nail, general manager, Agilent Automation Solutions Division. “Our revolutionary Direct Drive Robot and VWorks Automation Control Software enable scientists to focus on science, rather than the manual tasks that create significant inefficiencies in the lab.”

The new Direct Drive Robot uses configurable Z-travel technology to enable greater stacking of instruments and more functionality in a smaller footprint. Offering high operational precision, reliability and safety, the Direct Drive Robot sets a new standard for ease-of-use. One-person, one-touch teaching enables fast and easy configuration. State-of-the-art direct drive technology reduces the number of moving parts, resulting in a robotic arm that has increased reliability and speed.

The new generation of VWorks Automation Control Software is a complete software solution that integrates and controls scheduling for all levels of automation from stand-alone liquid handlers to large integrated systems. VWorks enables life science discovery enterprises to maximize throughput, focus on quality leads sooner and lower support burden with a single robust and versatile automation platform.

Additionally, Agilent will exhibit several workstations highlighting the BenchCel and Bravo automation platforms demonstrating new application developments in compound management, ADMET and genomics.

LabAutomation2009 attendees can visit Agilent Automation Solutions at Booth 327.
