Epson Develops Controller for the Latest In-Car Display Systems Including Dual-Panel Control and Head-Up Display
Seiko Epson Corporation ("Epson") has developed the S2D13515 display controller LSI that is ideally suited for use in in-car display systems by supporting dual panel control and head-up display. Shipment of samples has already commenced with a sample price of $30.
The S2D13515 supports high-definition panel drive for XGA resolution (maximum) and can also be used with a wide range of in-car display systems. This product is compatible with functions such as simultaneous display on two LCD panels with differing resolutions for instrument panel and navigation systems, real-time image data distortion and brightness correction of data projected on a front windshield for head-up display, OpenGL ES 1.1-compliant 3D graphic display, and video data display from digital video interfaces. Furthermore, it supports audio decoding functions for music compression file formats such as MP3, Ogg Vorbis, and AAC.
In addition to in-car display equipment, the S2D13515 can be utilized in a wide range of fields such as factory and office automation.
Features of S2D13515
* Independent control of two panels
o Capable of simultaneous display of two panels with differing resolutions. For example, WVGA (800 x 480) at 24 bpp and QVGA (320 x 240) at 18 bpp can be displayed simultaneously.
* Distortion and brightness correction
o Real-time distortion correction of data projected on a window for head-up display.
o Rotation and reduced/enlarged display is possible by dynamically altering correction parameters.
* Digital video input interface
o VGA video input at 60 fps can be displayed simultaneously on two systems.
o RGB streaming data input (18 bpp) display is also possible on two systems at the same time.
* General-purpose LCD controller
o Supports connection with CPUs of most major manufacturers.
o This LCD controller for TFT panels is compatible with high-definition panels with XGA resolution (maximum).
* 2D/3D graphics
o Richly expressive display made possible through 2D BitBLT and sprite function.
o Content rendering for clusters achieved through OpenGL ES-compliant 3D graphics.
* Two package types
o 256-pin QFP (0.4-cm pin pitch)
o 256-ball PBGA (1.0-cm ball pitch)
* Low power consumption
o Power consumption of approximately 130 mW* for WVGA panel display (33.3 MHz, 60 fps) from SDRAM (100 MHz operation).
o *Measured with ISO standard image.
* In-car quality assurance
o Supports operating temperature range of -40°C to 105°C using lower power consumption design.
For users considering utilizing this product, Epson provides the necessary evaluation boards that support drivers for Windows(R) CE by Microsoft Corporation as operating systems.
