The New Design Eliminates the Need for Expensive Off-the-Shelf Modules

PHOENIX -- The Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas business region of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT) announces the North America release of the Power Module Reference Design (PMRD-0012) that will eliminate the need for customers to purchase expensive, off-the-shelf modules.

The PMRD-0012 features National Semiconductor Corp.’s PowerWise® power management technology, which utilizes a synchronous buck topology. National’s unique emulated peak current-mode control achieves high-power density with increased levels of efficiency under a variety of conditions. The cost-effective “drop-in” solution for medium-power applications is well-suited for use with Intermediate Bus Architecture (IBA), Distributed Power Architecture (DPA), high-performance digital circuits, complex multi-voltage systems, telecommunications and industrial equipment, and server applications.

“This reference design utilizes National’s LM3495 emulated current-mode buck controller with peak efficiency of 95 percent, making it a member of National’s PowerWise energy-efficient product family,” said Malcolm Humphrey, vice president for National’s Infrastructure Power Management Division. “In addition to power savings, the LM3495 offers high feedback accuracy and 0.6V minimum output voltage that make it ideally suitable for wide variety of high current applications where modules are currently used.”
