13 World Records on Sun Studio Software Demonstrates the Performance Levels Available for Development on Multi-Core and Multithreaded Systems

MENLO PARK, California - November 16, 2005 - Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ: SUNW) today announced its latest development tool, "Sun Studio 11, and eliminated pricing barriers by offering the product free of charge to all developers.

Integrated into a fully-featured IDE, the latest enhancements made to Sun Studio 11 software include an advanced graphical debugger and a suite of performance analysis tools that simplifies the development process for even the most sophisticated C, C++, and Fortran programming needs.

Through close collaboration with chip and systems designers, Sun Studio 11 compilers deliver the highest optimizations and the best performance for the development of scalable 32-bit and 64-bit applications on multi-core and multithreaded systems, including Sun’s newest UltraSPARC T1 processors with CoolThreads technology and x64 (x86, 64-bit) Sun Fire systems running on the Solaris 10 Operating System (OS).

This results in an increase of developer productivity while requiring less hardware, electricity, and footprint when deploying these demanding applications into production. Sun Studio software has contributed to 13 performance world records announced in 2005, with 5 recorded on this latest release.

“Sun is not only leading the market in delivering multi-core and multithreaded systems, but we are taking it one step further and delivering the software and development tools needed to optimize the performance of those systems,” said John Loiacono, executive vice president of Software, Sun Microsystems. “Sun Studio 11 is just the latest enhancement we have made to our software and developer offering. We are also including Sun’s complete developer toolset into the Java Enterprise System and the Solaris OS, enabling developers access to the highest performing, most productive suite of tools on the planet, without the burden of additional costs.”
