TI Announces Rail-To-Rail, 2a Operational Amplifier In Tiny Power Package

WEBWIRE

DALLAS (October 13, 2005) - Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today introduced a high-current, low-cost power operational amplifier (op amp) designed for driving a wide variety of loads while operating on low-voltage supplies. The easy-to-use OPA567, from the company’s Burr-Brown product line, operates from either single or dual supplies for design flexibility and can be used in virtually any op amp configuration. (See www.ti.com/sc05213 )

This unity gain stable device has rail-to-rail swing on the input and output. The output swing is within 300mV of the supply rails with output current of 2A. Lower-current loads allow an output swing closer to the rails resulting in higher performance. The op amp is ideal for driving valves, actuators, laser diode pumps and servo motors. Other applications include thermoelectric coolers, synchro drivers and transducer excitation. The OPA567 can be integrated with a 12-bit A/D and D/A component such as the AMC7823 or a standalone 12-bit D/A converter such as the DAC7551. An additional feature of the OPA567 is a diagnostic flag for temperature overstress. The temperature flag can also be configured to provide thermal shutdown.

The small 5mm x 5mm QFN package is easy to heat sink and allows compact designs for medical instruments, industrial process control, optical networking and low-voltage battery-powered systems. The thermal pad package helps preserve precision by keeping the chip temperature low.

Available Today

The OPA567 is available in a Pb-free QFN-12 package (5mm x 5mm). The device is priced at $1.85 in 1,000 piece quantities (suggested resale pricing) and is available now from TI and its authorized distributors.

TI offers analog engineers a wide-ranging support infrastructure that includes training and seminars, design tools and utilities, technical documentation, evaluation modules, an online KnowledgeBase, a product information hotline and a comprehensive offering of samples that ship within 24 hours of request.
