Fujitsu’s 32-bit Microcontroller to Integrate Automotive CAN Networks

WEBWIRE

Fujitsu Microelectronics Asia Pte Ltd (FMAL) today announced the new offerings of its MB91460 Series of high-performance 32-bit microcontrollers for automotive applications with the new MB91F467BA product that can integrate several in-vehicle CAN(1) networks.

With this product’s 6 channel CAN controller, which is the most channels provided in the industry, it is possible to realize interconnection and gateway functionality among CAN networks of different speeds, or between CAN and FlexRay(2). Thus it is possible for control over combinations of various in-vehicle networks.

The MB91F467BA microcontroller has 1 MegaByte Flash Memory and 32 channels A/D Converter as basic function, and can also be used as a main microcontroller for automotive dashboard control and automotive body control.

In recent years, for automobile body and handling control, systems using CAN have been widely adopted, while the speed of in-vehicle networks has increased and the connecting equipment has become very diverse. Subsequently within the ECUs(3) that controls each electronic component, for the body control ECUs, there is an increasing necessity to control the whole in-vehicle network.

Fujitsu is responding to such needs by adding to the MB91460 Series the MB91F467BA microcontroller providing an industry top-level high-speed processing at 100MHz, and which has not only body control functionality but with gateway functionality it allows integration of several in-vehicle CAN networks.

Within the MB91460 Series, the FR60 CPU core and peripheral functions are common. Also the series has a common development chip that allows a reduction in software development costs and reuse of customer’s resources.

Key Features
1. Most Channels in the Industry with a 6 Channel CAN Controller, Allowing In-vehicle Network Integration
With a 6 channel CAN controller, you are able to realize control and interconnection among CAN networks of different speeds, or between different communications protocols, like between CAN and FlexRay. Thus it is possible to integrate several CAN networks.

2. MB91460 Series Common Development Chip, Reduces Software Development Costs
The MB91460 Series has a common chip necessary for verification during customer’s software development. With the use of this series, the customer can reduce their costs.

3. Realized Single Power Supply Operation
An automotive microcontroller that can operate on a single 3.0-5.5V power supply. Thus the configurations of the power supply circuits become simplified, and reduce the limitations on the customer’s hardware design.
