BOSTON, MA – December 10, 2021 - Metalenz, the first company to commercialize meta-optics, today announced three new hires as it prepares for its in-market debut and new product rollout in 2022: Brad MacMullin as Chief Finance Officer (CFO), Richard Norton as Vice President of Operations (VP), and Pawel Latawiec as Vice President of Design and Computation (VP). The expanded leadership will oversee the financial, operations, and design functions, respectively, to help bring Metalenz’s pioneering technology to the next generation of smartphones, automotive and other consumer applications.

Brad MacMullin, Chief Financial Officer, brings over 25 years of experience leading both private and public companies. MacMullin most recently served as CFO for Lucidity Lights, where he helped drive the acquisition of a competitor and increase revenue by 10x year-over-year. Prior to that, he was the VP of Finance for Arctic Sand Technologies, a semiconductor start-up that was successfully sold to Murata Manufacturing. MacMullin will oversee all aspects of Metalenz’s finance, accounting, risk, tax and human resources functions.

Richard Norton, Vice President of Operations, joins Metalenz with over 30 years’ experience in offshore semiconductor operations and product testing. Norton was previously the VP of Operations for Arctic Sand Technologies, a semiconductor start-up that was acquired by pSemi (a subsidiary of Murata Manufacturing). He also served as the Director of Product and Test Engineering for CHiL Semiconductor, a semiconductor start-up that was acquired by International Rectifier. Norton is responsible for all aspects of manufacturing, production testing and quality.

Pawel Latawiec, Vice President of Design and Computation, was formerly Director of Design and Computation at Metalenz, where he leads metasurface design and engineering efforts. He holds a B.S. in physics from the California Institute of Technology and a PhD in applied physics from Harvard University. His current focus is on constructing novel architectures for metasurface imaging and illumination and developing computational techniques for scalable objective-first design and fabrication.

Metalenz, born in the Harvard Labs of Federico Capasso, designs metasurface optics lenses that are smaller, more powerful, and less costly than traditional lenses. Already engaged with a number of the world’s largest manufacturers in the consumer electronics and automotive spaces and with the addition of new leadership, Metalenz is positioned to replace dated optics in devices spanning industries from consumer electronics and healthcare, to automotive and more.

“Metalenz will be the first to enable metasurface technology in consumer devices on a global scale. I couldn’t be more proud to join such a truly innovative group of founders and scientists reinventing the future of optics for mass commercialization,” said Brad MacMullin, Chief Financial Officer at Metalenz.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for Metalenz as we prepare to enter the end-user device market as the first metasurface technology commercially available,” said Robert Devlin, co-founder and CEO of Metalenz. “I look forward to building this company with Brad, Richard and Pawel in supporting our growth and establishing Metalenz as a leader in semiconductor meta-optic technology.”
