Improved Picture Quality, Reduced Manufacturing Costs Expected from DuPont Innovation

WILMINGTON, Del., January 18, 2007 - DuPont today announced the introduction of a new generation of DuPont™ Fodel® conductive pastes that provide the electrical connections for millions of pixels on the front and back glass used on plasma display panels (PDPs). Full-scale production is expected to begin this year at DuPont facilities in Puerto Rico and Taiwan.

The new product line, 7G Fodel® pastes, provides higher resolution for a full high definition television (HDTV) image. It also provides manufacturers a total cost reduction of 25 percent through lower paste consumption and reduced content of the precious metal Ruthenium.

“The PDP television market is about $10 billion annually and growing rapidly. Our goal is to develop lower cost, higher performance materials for improved image quality through better bright and dark contrast and finer resolution for high definition television,” said David B. Miller , vice president and general manager, DuPont Electronic Technologies .

“A major trend in the industry is moving to larger glass sizes, and our Fodel® products allow manufacturers to do that, with improved image quality. This will provide consumers with more options to enjoy the stunning picture quality offered by full HD, flat panel plasma televisions,” Miller said.

The DuPont™ Fodel® paste technology provides a simple, high yield and highly scaleable process for fine-line patterning of conductor lines on plasma glass panels. Compared to previous generations of Fodel® pastes, the new 7G pastes utilize novel, patent-pending black pigments developed by DuPont to reduce dependence on Ruthenium by 80 percent, and still achieve improved blackness and conductivity in a typical plasma television.

Several major manufacturers are in the process of qualifying the 7G Fodel® pastes.
