Agilent Technologies announces first complete PSP model extraction package

New device-modeling tool improves efficiency, accuracy of CMOS modeling

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 28, 2006

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced the first complete and commercially available Pennsylvania State University-Philips (PSP) model parameter extraction package for advanced complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) device models. The new package, for use with Agilent’s Integrated Circuit Characterization and Analysis Program (IC-CAP) software platform, provides more accurate and efficient modeling than was possible with previously available solutions.

“CMOS modelers are finding that parameters that can’t be calculated using the BSIM4 model are causing costly errors in their results,” said Chris Eppers, product manager with Agilent’s EEsof EDA division. “As device geometries approach 65 nm and smaller, the BSIM4 model no longer holds for growing analog and RF applications. A more advanced modeling solution, such as the PSP model, is necessary.”

Semiconductor foundries use IC-CAP software to accurately characterize foundry processes, resulting in reduced design cycles, decreased manufacturing costs and faster time-to-market for a variety of devices. With Agilent’s PSP Model Extraction Package and IC-CAP, software designers can generate complete models based on the most recent version of the Compact Modeling Council’s standardized PSP model. The package includes an easy-to-use interface for measurement collection, recommended extraction flows and model implementation. Agilent’s PSP Model Extraction Package has been verified with foundry data from several large CMOS foundries.

The PSP Model Extraction Package is part of Agilent’s broad strategy to support the latest standardized CMOS models. Following Agilent’s recent acquisition of Xpedion Design Systems, the company plans to leverage its established expert relationship with PSP model developer Dr. G. Gildenblat for continued PSP model development and training.

The Agilent PSP Model Extraction Package is orderable now, and is expected to ship before the end of 2006. IC-CAP parameter extraction software is available now, with prices starting at approximately $15,000.
