Three components on the brink of successful completion

Dortmund: Three FlexRay components of ELMOS Semiconductor AG have passed important internal project milestones and are on the brink of successful completion. All three ICs are important components of the new FlexRay network topology and form the physical interface between the network and the individual participants.

The IC E910.54 is a FlexRay single transceiver, its counterpart, the E910.55, has additional functions such as a network controlled wake-up function which supports the energy saving mode of the downstream processor. The IC E910.56 is a starcoupler, which is able to substitute up to four single transceivers. This component also contains a wake-up function through the network and has an own SPI diagnosis interface, showing that intelligent active FlexRay nodes can be constructed space-efficiently at a reasonable cost.

Thanks to the optimized EMC-behaviour all three ICs process high data rates up to 10 Mbit/s. In addition, the components feature extensive error detection and diagnosis capabilities, which can be activated over a standard SPI interface from the host processor. This way malfunctions on one segment of the network can be kept away from other bus segments by independent or controlled turning-off by the processor via SPI.

“With these innovative components we offer a reliable basis for the composition of a FlexRay network in automobiles. In the past weeks all components have successfully passed important development and quality milestones. First samples will be presented to our customers for testing purposes very soon”, says Dr. Frank Rottmann, member of the board of management for sales and development of ELMOS Semiconductor AG.

ELMOS has almost twenty years of experience in the development and manufacturing of semiconductor components for automotive bus systems. From the development of the first single wire bus (K-Bus) worldwide for BMW in the late eighties ELMOS now delivers components for all standardised wire connected LIN- und CAN-networks as well as for the optical safety bus system ByteFlight. FlexRay will be established as the standard of the future in automobiles in the field of high speed networks.

ELMOS Semiconductor AG is a developer and producer of system solutions on semiconductor basis. For more than 20 years, roughly 90% of sales have been generated with chips for automotive electronics.
