DuPont Opens Semiconductor Materials Technical Center in Taiwan

Center to Focus on Accelerating New Technologies for the Region

WILMINGTON, Del., July 24, 2006 - As part of its strategic plan for long term growth in the semiconductor materials market, DuPont Electronic Technologies has established a Semiconductor Materials Technical Center in Taiwan’s Hsinchu Science Park.

The Semiconductor Materials Technical Center is DuPont Taiwan Technical Center’s (DTTC’s) third facility in Taiwan. In the design and construction phase for two years, the state-of-the-art facility includes single wafer processing capability, advanced analytical and metrology tools, and is staffed with top researchers in the field of semiconductor process technology. DuPont also has semiconductor materials research facilities in the United States, Europe, and Japan.

“Semiconductor technology is the primary enabler of the global electronics industry, and advanced semiconductor materials are a major focus for DuPont,” said David B. Miller, vice president and general manager, DuPont Electronic Technologies. “With Taiwan’s large and rapidly growing role in the development of advanced semiconductor technologies, it is strategically important for DuPont to have research for advanced semiconductor materials capabilities near our customers, so we can better serve the needs of the marketplace.”

A key beneficiary of the Semiconductor Materials Technical Center will be DuPont EKC Technology, a DuPont Electronic Technologies business. EKC Technology is an industry leader in post-etch cleaning and residue removal solutions for the semiconductor industry. The Center will enable DuPont to accelerate the development of new technologies to support future processes and advanced designs. The Hsinchu facility also will improve product development cycle times.

DTTC was established in 2004. Since then, DTTC has worked closely with the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs, notably the “Two Trillion, Twin Stars” project, which established two centers that provide research for printed circuit materials, microcircuit materials, flat panel display technology, and green energy for solar panels and fuel cells. The Semiconductor Materials Technical Center in Taiwan will focus on materials research for advanced semiconductor processes.

DTTC has facilitated DuPont Taiwan’s close networking between research institutes, industry and government agencies. The new technical center will further integrate DuPont’s capabilities in material technology with Taiwan’s strength in electronics and semiconductor industries.

DuPont Electronic Technologies is a leading supplier of electronic materials, including materials for the fabrication and packaging of semiconductors, materials for hybrid, rigid and flexible circuits, and materials for advanced displays. For more information, visit
