INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTING CONVENTION (IBC), Amsterdam, Netherlands, Sept. 7. 2012 – Movea, pioneer in motion-sensing and data fusion technologies and unique motion sensing expert for Interactive TVs, announced today that it has expanded its platform support portfolio by porting its SmartMotion library of software algorithms to new Zigbee RF4CE and Bluetooth® Low Energy reference designs from leading semiconductor manufacturers’ remote controls, in addition to the previously announced ones.Supported reference designs include:

  • GreenPeak GP570 RF4CE Remote Reference Design
  • Nordic nRFready™ µBlue™ Smart Remote (Bluetooth low energy including  Bluetooth Smart) and the nRFready™ 2.4GHz RF Smart Remote (proprietary)
  • Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) Bluetooth Low Energy and RF4CE Remote Reference Designs

Cees Links, founder and CEO of GreenPeak Technologies explains: “Today, operators require immersive, natural and simple interactive entertainment applications and services, delivering an enhanced experience to their customers. As such, we chose to work with Movea for their expertise and deep understanding of human movement and motion processing as well as their implementation and platform flexibility.

”The availability of SmartMotion technology on these platforms allows unprecedented implementation flexibility, giving manufacturers the option to choose the sensors, features and components best suited for their needs.

Movea is the first motion-sensing technology provider to support such a large array of designs. By supporting a full range of microprocessors and sensors, Movea is unique in providing complete hardware and software solutions to remote control OEMs for enhanced navigation and control of the latest Internet connected TVs and set-top boxes (STBs).  Integrating Movea’s SmartMotion into cost-effective, low-power 6- and 9-axis reference designs enables natural control of Smart Home entertainment interfaces with intuitive in-air point-and-click navigation and gesture-based control.

Svenn-Tore Larsen, CEO at Oslo-based Nordic, adds: “By integrating Movea’s SmartMotion technology into our Bluetooth low energy and 2.4GHz Smart Remote reference designs, we enable our customers to address the demand for a more intuitive interface navigation experience compared to traditional infra-red (IR) technology – including support for pixel-accurate in-air pointing and advanced gesture recognition.”

Movea’s SmartMotion remote control firmware technology is a complete, sensor-agnostic, off-the-shelf system for motion-enabled remote controls, providing TI, Nordic Semiconductor and GreenPeak Technologies customers with an easy-to-deploy solution already integrated and tested, enabling faster time-to-market.

Movea’s SmartMotion technology is empowering operators and service providers to address consumer demand for a better user experience for interactive entertainment applications and services. Features such as point-and-click program guide navigation, gesture-based user authentication and motion gaming offer service providers new opportunities to increase revenue, attract new customers and reduce churn.

“With the rapid evolution of SmartTVs and the increasing consumer appetite for more powerful and intuitive user interfaces, smarter remote controls are needed to enhance the Smart Home experience and accelerate adoption,” Sam Guilaumé, CEO of Movea, said.  “We are confident that the opportunity to partner with GreenPeak Technologies, Nordic Semiconductor and TI will enable TV OEMs and service providers to fulfill this need quickly and further demonstrate the value of motion-enabled technology in home entertainment and beyond.”

Movea was an early driver of motion-enabled RF4CE remote controls, shipping in high-volumes with TI’s ZigBee RF4CE solutions. By adding Movea’s SmartMotion technology to TI’s compatible RF4CE and Bluetooth low energy solutions, SmartTV OEMs and service providers can choose the best wireless technology to meet the needs of their motion-enabled remotes,” said Oyvind Birkenes, general manager, Wireless Connectivity Solutions, TI.
