Automotive-Qualified Device Provides High Electromagnetic Compatibility

DALLAS (June 28, 2006) - Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today introduced a controller area network (CAN) transceiver with industry-leading electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection of up to +/- 8 kV (human body model). The robust device touts high electromagnetic immunity (EMI) and very low electromagnetic emissions (EME), which allow for survival and operation in harsh electrical environments such as automotive engine, body and diagnostic networks (www.ti.com/sc06120.)

The SN65HVD1050Q is qualified in accordance with AEC-Q100 for automotive applications and meets or exceeds the physical layer requirements specified by the International Standards Organization (ISO) 11898-2. The device’s ESD protection is up to twice the ESD protection provided by similar devices, which reduces the need for external protection components.

The SN65HVD1050Q offers both normal and silent operating modes. Normal mode is intended for regular bus communications, providing differential transmit capability to the bus and differential receive capability to a CAN controller at signaling rates up to 1 megabit per second (Mbps). A listen-only, silent mode provides the option to disable the driver while leaving the receiver active, which passes all bus activity to a local protocol controller. The SN65HVD1050Q complements TI’s full line of automotive MCUs and digital signal processors (DSPs) with integrated CAN peripherals including TMS470 MCUs and digital radio, infotainment and vision DSPs.

Additional Key Features

* Customer-specific configuration control can be supported along with major-change approval
* Drop-in replacement for competing devices
* GIFT/ICT-compliant
* Bus-Fault Protection of -27 V to 40 V
* Dominant time-out function
* Thermal shutdown protection
* Power-up/down glitch-free bus inputs and outputs
o High input impedance with low VCC
o Monotonic outputs during power cycling

Availability

The SN65HVD1050Q is available in volume from TI and its authorized distributors in an 8-pin SOIC package in the industry-standard footprint for stand-alone transceivers.
