Korean Native Strengthens Key Account Penetration in Design Intensive Market

Seoul, Korea, -- Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced the appointment of Bruce Sohn as the company’s country manager for Korea. Sohn is charged with continuing and expanding Cypress’s growth in Korea, particularly in handsets and white goods where Korean companies are world leaders.

Sohn joined Cypress in 2001 as the strategic marketing manager for SRAMs, and has since held positions of increasing responsibility supporting memories and image sensors both in the U.S. and Korea. Prior to Cypress, he worked in the Samsung Semiconductor SRAM division for 12 years in both strategic marketing and research and development. Born in Korea, Sohn has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Chung Ang University in Seoul.

“I am very excited by this opportunity to lead our efforts in Korea,” said Sohn. “Korean companies are at the leading edge, and are often the first to implement new technologies. Cypress has a great opportunity to grow upon our recent success here with innovative products for the handset market such as CapSense and other products to be released soon. I am looking forward to working with our talented team to achieve our aggressive growth goals.”

“Bruce’s experience in both product line management and customer relationships is an excellent fit with Cypress Korea’s design intensive strategic accounts,” said Paul Chu, Cypress’s vice president of Asia Sales and Operations. “Cypress’s broad range of products and platform-based solutions meet the needs of leading Korean companies, and Bruce’s ability to encourage excellent teamwork throughout our sales team, marketing organizations and design teams positions us well for increased local design wins.”

Cypress recently announced two design wins in Korea for its CapSense capacitive sensing application using Programmable System-on-Chip™ (PSoC®) mixed-signal arrays. The CapSense solution offers system designers numerous advantages over capacitive touch sensor products built around modules and sub-assemblies, including increased flexibility, reduced board space and lower cost. A single PSoC device can replace dozens of mechanical switches and controls with simple, touch-sensitive controls.
