WVR7100 HD/SD Rasterizers Enable London’s New Post Production Facility to Meet Content Quality Demands of HD and Hybrid Systems

BEAVERTON, Ore., - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring solutions, announced that Envy, one of London’s new HD post-production facilities, has selected Tektronix WVR7100 HD/SD rasterizers to provide content quality monitoring for long-form dramas, documentaries, commercials, promos, on-air branding and station IDs.

Covering 15,000 square feet over six floors of prime London real estate, the £5.6m Envy is one of London’s most significant new HD post facilities. Envy’s Tektronix WVR7100’s are in constant use in its “Smoke” and Avid “Nitris” HD online suites, “Baselight” grading system suite and machine rooms.

“Envy has officially been open for three months now and our suites have had to flip between SD and HD bookings on a regular basis right from the start,” said Daniel Sassen, Chief Engineer, Envy. “In order for us to provide the ultimate client experience, one of the design criteria for the facility build was to have all equipment within our suites automatically detect video standards and support hybrid formats. Additionally, with numerous HD broadcasters demanding Dolby E, we needed to be able to monitor the Dolby E stream in all areas. The WVR7100 satisfies both of these requirements very well. ”

“In a short period of time, Envy has put robust expansion plans into operation, which is a strong indicator of their rapid success,” said Nicki Fisher, Tektronix Video Sales Manager, EMEA. “We are delighted to be a significant part of such a leading edge facility and look forward to assisting in Envy’s continued growth.”

The WVR7100 rasterizer capabilities include Dolby Digital and Dolby E audio monitoring, new audio “Loudness” (Leq) monitoring and the powerful FlexVu™ display, which can be configured to display - in four individual tiles - any combination of the waveform, vector, gamut, picture, audio, timing, status, and alarms displays. The audio monitoring and measurement capabilities reduce the time and effort needed to assess the quality of multi-channel audio content and to diagnose multi-channel audio amplitude or phase problems.

“Tektronix technology was chosen above all other vendors for its reliability, ease of use and full feature set,” adds Sassen. “For example, the WVR7100’s high-tech appearance and clear FlexVu™ display made it the natural choice for waveform monitoring in our Baselight non-linear grading suite. Our colourist often grades SD and HD jobs on alternate sessions so easy switching between formats was essential. We have been exceptionally pleased with the results.”

In a further move to make switching between SD and HD jobs as seamless as possible, Envy also installed a reference signal router with synchronisation provided by three Tektronix TG700 multi-format analogue and digital test signal generators, therefore making every flavour of SD and HD sync available at the click of a button. Moreover, Envy’s Engineering Department uses a Tektronix WFM700 multi-format waveform monitor as a portable solution to quickly and efficiently assess any video or audio signal throughout the facility.
