Those dining out in Beaumont, AB can experience the mysteries of Nepalese cuisine and help those in need. Chef Jaya Jha Corson, owner and chef at the Yeti Gourmet, has announced that the restaurant will donate $2 from each order of its popular butter chicken to aid two area organizations.

Now through Jan. 18, 2011, each donation of $2 will go to the Stollery Hospital for Children. From Feb. 2-28, 2011, the donation will go to benefit food banks in Beaumont and the surrounding area. Butter chicken is the eatery’s most popular dish and sells for $10.99.

Chef Corson has been serving traditional Nepalese and East Indian dishes for four years. Their butter chicken accounts for approximately 50 percent of the restaurant’s orders and is especially popular with children. The unique recipe is made from a secret homemade spice blend that includes bay leaves, cinnamon and cardamom varieties, as well as dry ginger root imported from the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal.

The Yeti Gourmet’s menu relies heavily on non-beef dishes due to religious beliefs, though some of its recipes do contain chicken, pork, lamb and even bison. The result is a wide variety of vegetable-based dishes from which to choose that are healthy as well as delicious.

Many of the dishes are gluten-free and popular with local residents of Beaumont.

The restaurant is well known for the freshest vegetable samosa varieties in the Edmonton area. Diners are also fond of the restaurant’s gundruk, one of the national dishes of Nepal; yomani, a steamed and gluten free dish popular in central Nepal in the areas of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan; and momo, a delicacy that originated in Tibet.

The Yeti Gourmet also offers merchandise that includes hand-knit sweaters, gloves and jackets, as well as loose leaf green and black tea from Nepal.

Reservations can be made by calling the Yeti Gourmet at 780-929-9398.
