WEBWIRE

The 2010 Taste of the Beach will open this year’s festivities on Nov. 4 with a delightful sunset wine and food tasting celebration overlooking the emerald waters of Destin harbor. For the price of a $35 ticket, event goers will enjoy a vast array of local delicacies and culinary masterpieces from a variety of restaurants in the area. Along with the fine dishes presented will be an assortment of wines that have been donated from many of the restaurants lining Harborwalk Village. Food and wine enthusiasts will be treated to a professional mixologist who will present a variety of unique cocktails for their pleasure while watching a stunning fireworks display.

An event that now spans 4 days and 3 nights, Taste of the Beach will also close out this year’s gala in Destin on Nov.7 with a wine and charity auction to be held at the Sandestin Hilton. The final event will take place on the pool deck and will benefit the Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation, a local charity that helps fund 11 children’s charities in the area. This year there will be auctions of wines, vacation and travel packages, fine artwork and gift baskets among the offerings. Director Todd Vucovich says the Taste of the Beach auction is “the big fall event” and “very important” to the foundation’s fundraising efforts.

Local resorts and hotels are gearing up for the expected influx of visitors with the event, with many offering specials or their own events to go along with Taste of the Beach. One of the most popular resorts, Edgewater Beach Condominium (http://www.edgewaterbeach.com/), is giving complementary tickets to the Seaside Seeing Red wine festival that is being held on Nov. 6 with a 3-night stay (limited availability - call for details). One of the most popular events of the Taste of the Beach festival, attendees enjoy sampling fine wines from around the globe along with great music in the Seaside Ampitheater.

Taste of the Beach was founded in 2008 as a way to celebrate and highlight the culture of the Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast. The jam-packed four day event showcases the area’s pristine beaches along with the unique culture of this southern gem. This year’s event is being sponsored by Southwest Airlines, something that the Taste of the Beach chairperson, Dawn Moliterno, hopes will expand the reach of the local event. Moliterno said in a press release that expanding regionally will help “raise much-needed funds for children in critical need”, the main purpose for the Taste of the Beach annual event.
