Fried Appetizers: Sabine River Cafe Celebrates National Pickle Month

WEBWIRE

Fried appetizers: Calling all pickle connoisseurs. July is national pickle month, and if you like pickles, you’re in luck. Sabine River Café will be commemorating the occasion by offering a free fried pickle appetizer with the order of any entrée throughout July, 2010.

Pickle Packers International, which represents both pickle manufacturers and suppliers, claims Americans eat about nine pounds of pickles a year with the dill variety being the most popular. “Since we opened last June,” says Chuck Krauthamer, Managing Partner at Sabine River Café, “we have served over 1000 fried pickle spears. Our Fried Pickle appetizer continues to be a hot topic for conversation and a favorite menu item. We chill our pickles, and then fry them to a golden crisp. The result: a crispy-coated, crunchy dill spear packed with flavor that keeps ‘em coming back for more.”

Fried pickles – or frickles – are a Southern treat enjoyed by many. If you’ve never tried fried pickles, you owe it to yourself to indulge in this culinary fried appetizer delight during national pickle month. Nearly everyone who tastes our fried pickle appetizer agrees they are unusually dill-icious and incredibly addicting! The tradition began in Oakland California in 1962 with the first commercial sale of deep-fried pickles occurring in Arkansas in 1963 by Bernell Austin.

Famous pickle aficionados include George Washington, John Adams and Dolly Madison. Cleopatra credits the pickle for contributing to her beauty. Do you have a special affection for pickles?
