Leading electronics manufacturer uses VoSKY’s gateway to dramatically reduce costs regionally and globally

Leading electronics provider NEC Electronics America, Inc. has deployed VoSKY’s Exchange Pro VIT-1/E1 PBX-to-Skype gateways to nearly halve its annual phone bill for regional and global long-distance calls.

Since installing the VoSKY gateways, NEC Electronics America has reported 38% savings on its long-distance call costs within the US, and 50% on the cost of international calls, giving the company annualised savings of more than $16,000 a year.

NEC Electronics America deployed two VoSKY Exchange Pro VIT-1/E1 gateways at its headquarters office in Santa Clara, California, to enable its 300-plus employees to make high-quality calls over Skype within the US and internationally. Calls are made using conventional desktop PBX handsets, and the gateways automatically route calls over Skype according to NEC Electronics America’s dialing plan.

According to Dennis Scott, senior manager of IT strategy, corporate strategy division at NEC Electronics America, the key driver for deployment was reducing the company’s communications charges. He said: “We were looking for an alternative to expensive international carriers and found there were numerous employees already using Skype within our organisation. We contacted VoSKY and found we could deploy Skype on our existing phone system by using the Exchange Pro VIT-1/E1 Gateways.”

David Tang, VP of Global Marketing for VoSKY, said: “In the current economic climate businesses are really starting to see the value of Skype trunking. With VoSKY’s exchanges, businesses can easily and cost-effectively hook up to Skype and start getting the numerous costs and comms benefits straight away. As well as delivering significant cost savings, the gateways allow businesses to manage and control how Skype is used - removing the IT headaches associated with unmanaged Skype usage.”

The VoSKY Exchange Pro VIT1/E1 seamlessly integrates with an organisations’ existing phone system, allowing them to take advantage of Internet Telephony without replacing their existing network infrastructure. With a VoSKY Exchange gateway, employees can make and receive Skype calls from their regular office phone – no Skype software, computers, or headsets are required. The scalable 1U rack-mountable appliance enables up to 30 concurrent Skype calls using E1/T1 ISDN PRI, and is easy for telecoms and IT managers to configure and manage.
