SeaChange’s Introduction of the MSV 1000 Generates Praise from Press, Excitement among Broadcasters at NAB2009

ACTON, Mass. - SeaChange International’s (NASDAQ: SEAC) new MediaServer 1000 standalone multichannel ingest and playout server was presented with the 2009 STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award by the editorial staff of TV Technology magazine at NAB2009 in Las Vegas. Introduced on the opening day of the annual broadcast technology exhibition, the MSV 1000 delivers the renowned reliability of SeaChange’s storage servers with the flexibility of its software-based codecs in a 2 RU footprint, lowering the point of entry for broadcasters to begin realizing the efficiencies and power of file-based workflows.

Now in its 10th year, TV Technology’s STAR Award is designed to celebrate and showcase the outstanding technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. A panel of judges consisting of TV Technology editors and columnists reviewed a variety of products, examined the technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry, and then submitted their award nominees.

“Every year, the NAB Show serves as the launching pad for thousands of new products and services for audio and video professionals,” said Tom Butts, TV Technology Editor. “Our panel of editors walks the show floor in search of the most innovative technologies. The products and services that we select for the STAR Award make the cut - they demonstrate their ability to help advance the acquisition and distribution of entertainment and information across the media spectrum.”

The MSV 1000’s “stream-through” functionality means the unit operates not only as a standalone system for simple ingest and playout, but can also be combined with SeaChange’s Broadcast MediaLibrary (BML) and DataDirect Networks’ (DDN) S2A to expand into a shared storage system with no download. In such a case, the MSV 1000’s built-in software codecs complement the greater storage capacity of the BML or DDN’s system.

With up to 10 channels, the MSV 1000 provides the highest channel capacity on the market today, all supported by up to 10TB of RAID6-protected SATA or 1TB of RAID5-protected flash memory storage. The integrated codecs can natively support a broad range of popular tapeless formats, including Avid DNxHD, DV25, 50 or 100, IMX and MPEG-2.

“SeaChange’s receipt of the STAR Award for the MSV 1000 is not only an honor, but also an affirmation of the remarkable level of customer interest that the system created on the NAB show floor,” said Chris West, vice president of worldwide broadcast sales, SeaChange. “The MSV 1000 is the right product at the right time for the marketplace, enabling broadcasters to economically take the first steps toward tapeless workflows and later expand into large multichannel platforms while continuing to leverage their initial investment.”

In addition, the versatile MSV 1000 can operate in a disaster recovery or business continuity role, serving as an emergency backup to primary ingest and playout systems in a broadcast operation.

SeaChange’s range of proven content storage, streaming and management solutions, including the fault-resilient FML200 flash memory-based play-to-air server, and its latest Broadcast MediaClient server codecs, will be on display during BroadcastAsia, June 16-19 in Singapore. Demonstrations will underscore why broadcasters of all sizes in all parts of the world continue to make SeaChange their digital video foundation.
