Harris Corporation Completes Critical Design Review of Programmable Modem for TSAT Space Segment

WEBWIRE

MELBOURNE, Florida, February 9, 2006 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a teammate on the Boeing-led Transformational Satellite Communications (TSAT) Space Segment program, today announced the successful completion of the Critical Design Review (CDR) for implementing XDR+ waveforms using Harris’ Programmable TSAT Modem Testbed. The CDR included detailed simulations and analysis utilizing the next-generation, high-data-rate MILSTAR waveforms.

“The Harris Programmable TSAT Modem Testbed illustrates our ongoing commitment to developing innovative, state-of-the-art communications products so that our nation’s warfighters are equipped with the most advanced and cost-effective military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) solutions available,” said Dan Pearson, president of the Department of Defense Programs business unit of Harris Corporation’s Government Communications Systems Division. “TSAT is a key enabler of network-centric operations for U.S. military forces, and we are very pleased to have successfully completed this important program milestone.”

TSAT uses Harris’ second-generation programmable modem platform, which provides a flexible design and development environment to accurately demonstrate the implementation of the new MILSATCOM XDR+ waveforms. The modem utilizes the latest Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology, enabling rapid waveform synthesis, validation and transition to deliverable equipment. When implemented, the TSAT Space Segment system will provide the Department of Defense with very high-data-rate MILSATCOM and Internet-like services.

The Boeing team, of which Harris is a member, was one of two teams awarded a TSAT Risk Reduction and System Definition contract in January 2004.
