CeBIT 2006: Siemens presents new Gigaset products for voice and data communication, home media and home control

WEBWIRE

Munich, Feb 3, 2006, At this year’s CeBIT, Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices will be in Hall 26, Booth A31 to present a comprehensive portfolio of new cordless telephones for fixed-network and Internet telephony, innovative Internet access devices and set-top boxes for the new world of digital home entertainment, as well as solutions for home networks and home control.

With new Gigaset products for Internet telephony at home, Siemens is now addressing consumers to whom Voice over IP has previously seemed too technically challenging. Easy-to-use products that do not even have to be used with a PC will make this new and low-cost form of telephony an attractive one. The products to be presented include the Gigaset C450 IP, a DECT cordless phone with integrated Voice over IP functionality. This hybrid model has both a fixed-network and a LAN connection and is operated like a conventional telephone, so that anyone can enjoy the benefits of low-cost Internet telephony – simply and without a PC. And it is just as easy to set up as it is to use: The provider settings are called up online via the menu system of the mobile handset and loaded automatically. This cordless all-round Giagset will be available in retail outlets for less than 100 euros soon after its premiere at CeBIT.

Television on demand is becoming a reality with new set-top boxes. Whether reception is via cable, satellite, an antenna or the Internet, there are user-friendly and intelligent solutions for all these possibilities. The solutions offer users a rich and varied selection of programming as well as options for recording and storage – and all this with brilliant HDTV quality.

Those who already know and appreciate the qualities of broadband DSL access can look forward to even faster access and even more services in the future. Siemens Gigaset products will be presented at CeBIT that support “triple play” services. In addition to Internet access, the new Gigaset access gateways provide sufficient bandwidth for Voice over IP and multimedia content such as television programming or Video on Demand. For regions that do not yet have DSL coverage, “Wimax” (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) – a new s tandard for regional wireless networks – is an alternative for the future, and the first end-user products using it will be shown.

With the market launch at CeBIT of Gigaset home control products from a number of partners, the networked home can finally become an affordable reality for everyone. From window blinds, entry door intercoms and lighting to the kitchen range or washing machine – with a Siemens Gigaset cordless phone, everything is well in hand.

The Gigaset C450 IP is a DECT cordless telephone for fixed-network and Internet telephony and ideal for anyone interested in entering the Voice over IP world with ease and security
