FRAMINGHAM, Mass., February 1, 2006 – IDC today announced that Matthew (Matt) E. Davis has been named Program Director of IDC’s Consumer Multiplay Services research. In this position, Mr. Davis will drive IDC analysis and thought leadership in the fast-evolving consumer market of converging telephony, broadband, video, and wireless. Working closely with IDC’s existing team of analysts covering consumer and telecommunications markets, Mr. Davis will focus on what the next generation of multiplay consumer communications solutions will look like by identifying technological enablement, new service opportunities, and potentially disruptive emerging business models.

Mr. Davis was formerly the Director of Broadband Access Technologies practice at The Yankee Group in Boston. In this role, he wrote research, developed custom research, and worked individually with clients to help them make decisions on broadband products and services development impacting the multi play marketplace.

“Matt’s in-depth understanding of the consumer broadband market will be instrumental in helping us provide product and financial analysis, pricing and demand forecasts, and decision analysis tools to a broad portfolio of clients,” said Mark Winther, Group Vice President & General Manager, Worldwide Telecommunications at IDC.

“Convergence is a theme that crosses many markets and having an experienced analyst and a targeted research product that speaks to the many issues, challenges, and opportunities in this space is critical to serving our clients,” said Danielle Levitas, Vice President, Consumer and Broadband Markets at IDC.

As the lead analyst for the Consumer Multiplay Service group, Mr. Davis will provide comprehensive analysis of U.S. “quad play” offerings of broadband, video, VoIP, and wireless services. Specific products will include an in-depth forecast of the bundled service revenue opportunities, a comprehensive demand-side survey designed to segment U.S. households by type of bundle and demand for integrated product. The group will also generate competitive scorecards that are applied to communications companies, carriers, cable MSOs, ISPs and media companies. Finally, demand-side data will be analyzed in relation to emerging technologies that are driving convergence, including Fiber deployment, IMS, IPTV, VDSL, 3G and other next generation platforms.

Mr. Davis is located at IDC’s corporate headquarters in Framingham, Mass. and can be reached at medavis@idc.com.
