Wassif Mahktoum, a Canadian traveler living in Ajman, United Arab Emirates launches hookahpipe.ca (www.hookahpipe.ca) today to provide a resource for Canadians to learn about these Egyptian water pipes. These water pipes have been slowly growing in popularity amoung Canadians, with large growth in the university and college student market.

A hookah goes by many names in Canada: shisha, narghile and goza are the most common. However most Canadian smokers call it a shisha pipe. The pipe pulls smoke from molasses soaked tobacco through a reservoir of water to create very dense smoke. Mr. Mahktoum describes it as “thick cool plumes of flavoured goodness”

Mr. Mahktoum was asked about his hookah tricks section: “People wanted me to do a section on iced and alcoholic hookah. I don’t smoke my pipe with alcohol inside the water tank but many people do.”

When asked about the availability of Egyptian water pipes in Canada, Mr. Mahktoum replied: “they are typically available in cheap forms at hippie shops and some Arabic variety forms; don’t buy these if you want one at home.
