Academy Award Winning Actress, Charlize Theron, Partners with Picturehouse to Produce The Ice at the Bottom of the World
January 12, 2006, Picturehouse and New Line International, in conjunction with Charlize Theron’s Denver and Delilah Films, will develop The Ice at the Bottom of the World, it was announced today by Bob Berney, president of Picturehouse, Rolf Mittweg, president and coo of New Line Distribution and Marketing and Camela Galano, president of New Line International.
The Ice at the Bottom of the World has long been a passion project for Theron, who brought the project to Berney. The two had previously worked together on Monster, which Theron produced, starred in and for which she won an Academy Award.
“One of the many things that makes Charlize a great partner, aside from her remarkable talent as an actor, is her eye for material and passion for the process of connecting the film with the audience,” said Berney. "I look forward to continuing our collaboration with The Ice at the Bottom of the World and I am confident that we will build on our past success"
Based on his fictional short story, Mark Richard penned the film adaptation. Set in the Chesapeake Bay, a Navy lifer retires and returns home throwing his family into chaos, forcing them to re-examine their relationships and to find ways to cope with one another.
“I love this story,” said Theron. “The world is so rich and the characters are so alive. I am very excited to reteam with my friend, Bob Berney, and Picturehouse. I know that Bob and I are creatively aligned and together we will bring this story to the screen in the most potent way.”
The deal was brokered by J.J. Harris/Beth Kono at ONE ENTERTAINMENT and attorneys Steve Warren and Gretchen Bruggeman Rush on behalf of Charlize Theron with Bob Berney and Carolyn Blackwood on behalf of Picturehouse and New Line International.
Launched in April 2005, Picturehouse is the joint venture of two leaders of the entertainment community - HBO and New Line Cinema.
