SAS noted in book for pioneering work/life balance for employees

CARY, NC - Companies that treat employees well, invest in communities where they do business, and employ sustainable business practices will also attract top talent, says former Yahoo! Inc. executive Tim Sanders. “The market will punish companies that don’t get it,” he asserts. “SAS is a company that gets it.”

Sanders visited business analytics software leader SAS last week to promote his latest book, Saving the World at Work . The premise: Businesses exerting a positive force for enriching people and communities and protecting the environment will have the greatest success.

Sanders recalled a SAS customer he met when he first visited SAS in 2004. The executive was replacing a SAS competitor’s business intelligence products with SAS®. Sanders asked if he was under pressure to lower costs. He answered, “SAS is a company that builds schools with its profits and its employees are the happiest I’ve ever seen. I would fight to keep our relationship with SAS alive!”
“Making a difference” permeates SAS psyche

SAS, a perennial among FORTUNE’s Best Companies to Work For, has been honored many times for its work environment, which includes comprehensive healthcare benefits and on-site services and programs designed to reduce distractions. “What deserves more attention is the positive impact SAS employees have in communities where we do business,” said Jenn Mann, SAS Vice President of Human Resources. “With our philanthropic focus on education, there are many opportunities to get involved with local schools. Our employees have always been generous with their time and talents in this area.”

Elizabeth Ceranowski, who spends her days helping university students become proficient SAS users, exemplifies how employees make a difference. Last week, she donated a quilt she made to a silent auction at the SouthEast SAS Users Group Conference in St. Pete Beach, FL. The quilt fetched $250 for DonorsChoose, which supports education projects nationwide.

“It is terrific to work for a company that focuses on making a difference in the lives of others,” Ceranowski said.
