Teamcenter will Serve as the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Backbone to Provide a Common Technical Data Repository for Paulstra’s Sites Worldwide

Tuesday, January 10, 2006, PARIS and PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced Paulstra, a world leader in the design and manufacture of vibration attenuation systems and components, standardized on Teamcenter™ software, UGS’ digital lifecycle management solution, to equip its worldwide sites with a common PLM backbone over the next three years.

Paulstra, Hutchinson’s Automotive Antivibration business, provides engine mounts, steering couplings, cradle mounts and exhaust hangers, all of which are designed and manufactured in-house using metal, rubber, hydraulic and active components. As part of its Agora project, Paulstra performed a benchmark study of several digital lifecycle management solutions to assess the benefits of deploying a global enterprise PLM platform. The aim was to select a single tool capable of meeting the company’s full spectrum of needs including providing flawless traceability and end-to-end control of the design, production engineering and manufacturing cycle.

Following the extensive benchmark study, Paulstra selected UGS’ Teamcenter based on its best-in-class response to current requirements as well as its comprehensive, flexible solution for supporting the company’s future growth. Teamcenter will provide a common technical data repository that will be shared across all Paulstra sales offices, design centers and manufacturing plants worldwide.

“The Agora project is designed to harmonize and standardize best practices in order to drive up productivity and efficiency across our organization both today and in the future,” explains Patrick Strazzulla, PLM Project Leader at Paulstra. “Following extensive technical benchmarking, the Teamcenter software suite emerged as the most competitive technical solution from every standpoint in accordance with our corporate strategy.”

This decision bolsters the continued relationship between Paulstra and UGS. Paulstra’s anti-vibration solutions design and development team previously selected the Teamcenter collaborative platform for managing design data generated using SolidWorks®, CATIA® V4 and V5, Solid Edge®, and NX™, and for visualizing the associated 3D digital mockups. The Teamcenter solution allows remote teams to communicate and collaborate more effectively, and integrates seamlessly with Paulstra’s legacy enterprise-wide systems.

UGS leadership in the automotive industry

The new contract with Paulstra underscores UGS’ leadership in providing PLM solutions to the global automotive industry. Nine of the top 10 automotive OEMs with a collaborative development partner have standardized on UGS. To date, more than 150,000 seats of UGS software are in use at the world’s top 25 automotive OEMs.

“We are delighted that Paulstra has joined other automotive players in selecting our PLM solution for unifying product and process data,” said Pascal Zehren, managing director, UGS France. “UGS is a leading supplier of PLM solutions to the automotive industry and this contract reflects our customers’ confidence in our products and services. We owe our ongoing success not only to our employees and technologies, but also to a policy of deploying open standards, which translates into seamless integration of solutions into customers’ legacy IT environments.”
