Rent Spot Succeeds in the Calgary Rental Listings Market

National Roll-out Planned for Apartments and Homes for Rent

(Calgary, Alberta) – Starting June 1, 2008, Rent Spot will start charging $25 for a short term rental listings in Calgary and roll-out to other cities over the summer including Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax for free rental listings.

Rent Spot is Calgary’s newest and hottest online rental site generating the fastest turnover of rental listings for landlords – making it easier for renters and property owners to connect.
Rent Spot has enjoyed huge success in the Calgary market increasing listings to over 850 Calgary rental listings from 100 listings in 2006. Part of the success is having the most #1 Google keywords for Calgary which means more eyeballs are on RentSpot.com compared to any other rental website.

What started out as an idea with three entrepreneurs, Craig Bedard, Dennis Havelock and Rob Johnson with money out of their own pockets and lot of sweat equity has turned into a viable business model charging for rental listings and website advertising.

The long-term goal is to become the eBay of housing having websites for rental properties, vacation properties, commercial properties and real estate. “We want to serve local cities with an easy and fast way to find a roof over their head whether that is a place to rent, live or have office space – The Internet is the best way to do that,” says Craig Bedard, Managing Partner of Rent Spot.

Rent Spot was initially launched in the summer of 2006 when everyone was buying a condo or home. Times have definitely changed in the Calgary market as the affordability for new time home buyers has decreased and the supply of homes for rent has increased. “We have definitely seen a shift in the rental market, a lot more homes and condos are for rent that would have been sold before, it’s a good time to for us to launch payment and we see a strong market for us across Canada as we roll-out nationally,” says Rob Johnson, Managing Partner of Rent Spot.
