SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 12, 2008

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced a wide range of ground-breaking innovations to its liquid chromatography (LC) portfolio at HPLC 2008. Agilent’s Poroshell 120 columns, 1200 Rapid Resolution (RRLC) system, 1200 Series LC Method Development Solution and newest version of ChemStation software offer customers an unmatched combination of choice and productivity in the industry.

LC is a measurement technology used to separate, identify, quantify and purify compounds in applications from forensics to food safety, pharmaceuticals and protein research. The Agilent 1200 Series is the most comprehensive LC available. Expanded to more than 60 instrument modules, it can be configured for all major LC applications, from preparative scale to nanoflow range.

“Agilent offers the widest choice of liquid separation tools and workflows, allowing customers to choose the right technology to match both their budget and application,” said Helen Stimson, general manager, Columns and Supplies division. “These product introductions provide increased separation efficiency and productivity at all stages -- from LC method development to routine analysis.”

Poroshell 120 Column Technology

Poroshell 120 columns expand Agilent’s LC column line as a highly productive, high-resolution option. The columns provide rugged, high-resolution separations within the pressure range of any mainstream LC available, making the benefits of sub-two-micron performance available with existing LCs. Poroshell columns can achieve high-resolution and high-speed separation on current instruments, and higher resolution and speed on newer high-pressure LC and LC/MS systems. Poroshell columns cost-effectively accelerate customer workflows. The Poroshell 120 columns join the Poroshell 300 columns Agilent currently offers for bioseparations.

B.04.01 ChemStation Software

The new version B.04.01 of the Agilent ChemStation software with its enhanced usability is a perfect complement to the 1200 Series LC system. A tight integration of instrument control and data with OpenLab enterprise content management (ECM) provides for central-data and master-method management. Configurable access security makes ChemStation a seamless fit for both non-regulated and regulated environments. Remote instrument access and central instrument control allow for more efficient instrument use. The new Intelligence Reporter feature simplifies data analysis and frees lab personnel to focus on the measurement results. The Agilent Lab Monitor and Diagnostic software delivers full support for all Agilent 1100 and 1200 Series LC instruments independent of the user’s chromatographic data system.

1200 Series Rapid Resolution System

The Agilent 1200 Series Rapid Resolution System (RRLC) is the most versatile LC system available, combining leading-edge resolution and productivity with standard HPLC capability. Together with Agilent’s leading-edge Poroshell 120 columns or with ZorbaxRR-HT column technology these systems deliver high end performance and still they can be used for conventional LC methods.

Both for LC/UV and LC/MS applications, the new LC modules deliver:

* 90,000 theoretical plates in four minutes for maximum separation efficiency when combined with the Poroshell 120 column technology;
* up to 5x higher UV sensitivity with new Variable Wavelength Detector;
* more universal detection with the recently introduced Evaporative Light Scattering Detector; and
* near-zero carry-over for higher data quality with the High Performance Autosampler SL Plus.

“The Agilent 1200 Series Rapid Resolution system has been designed to facilitate the transition to the most efficient LC methodology,” said Fred Strohmeier, general manager, Liquid Phase Separations division. “Our customers can accelerate their workflows to make ground-breaking discoveries or to save significantly on operating costs.”

1200 Series LC Method Development Solution

A rational approach to easy and rapid method development has driven the design of the Agilent 1200 Series LC Method Development Solution. The modular structure of the 1200 Series allows tailoring the system to the needs of simple method development up to challenging method optimization tasks. Accommodating up to 15 different solvents and eight analytical columns -- with practically no restrictions -- and a maximum of 288 separation conditions make this the most versatile system for any kind of LC method development. The intuitive Agilent ChemStation Method Scouting Wizard guides the user through the initial steps of setting up the experiments. Together with well-established method development software packages these systems provide a workflow solution to any LC method development group.

Presentation of the A.J.P. Martin Award to Agilent’s Ronald E. Majors

Professor W. John Lough, president of the Chromatographic Society of U.K., will present Ronald E. Majors, senior chemist at Agilent, with the Chromatographic Society’s 2007 Martin Gold Medal. The award is named after the Nobel Prize winner A.J.P. Martin.

Dr. Majors earned his Ph.D. from Purdue University and joined Agilent’s predecessor Hewlett Packard in 1990, working in sample-preparation and chromatography-column technology. He currently works in the Columns and Supplies Division in Wilmington, Del. He is the author of more than 250 publications in HPLC, GC, sample preparation and surface chemistry. Dr. Majors is a lifetime member of the Chromatography Forum of Delaware Valley, a member of the American Chemical Society, the Chromatography and Separations Chemistry Sub-division of the Analytical Division of the ACS where he was chairman and secretary. He is also a member of the Chromatographic Society (U.K.) and the board of directors of the California Separations Society.

Dr. Majors has been an invited lecturer, session organizer and session chairman at many national and international symposia, including chairman of the conferences HPLC ’86 and Anabiotec ’90. He has received numerous other awards for his work, including the 1994 Merit Award in Chromatography from the Chicago Discussion Group, the 1998 Award for Distinguished Contributions in Separation Science sponsored by the California Separations Society, the Excellence in Chromatography Award from the North Jersey Chromatography Discussion Group and in 2006 the Palmer Award from the Minnesota Chromatography Discussion Group.
