The aggressive marketing drive by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and the plethora of attractions that the emirate offers has resulted in Dubai being selected as the venue of choice time and again by leading companies for holding their annual seminars.

Kuoni Travel Ltd., one of the leading tour operators for inbound tourists to Dubai, held its annual seminar and training in Dubai from September 25 to October 2. The seminar being held over the last 10 years was attended by nearly 100 travel agents from the UK.

The seminar provided Kuoni’s top selling travel agents the opportunity to experience Dubai first hand in order to boost sales to the emirate. It was attended by both new as well as experienced travel agents right from London to Scotland.

Mr. Steven Price Jones from Kuoni Travel Ltd. said: “The selection of Dubai for our annual seminar goes to show how popular the emirate is in the UK market. Dubai’s world-class facilities and the plethora of attractions are becoming a big hit in the UK market and this seminar gave the retail travel agents a first hand experience of what the emirate offers tourists.”

“The response was fantastic and the agents loved the place. While the experienced agents were surprised to see the rapid growth of the emirate in terms of new developments and attractions, the new agents were over-awed with the scale of all that the emirate had to offer besides the upcoming developments,” added Mr. Jones.

According to Mr. Frederic Bardin, the Vice President of Arabian Adventures, the agents for Kuoni, “We have been organising this annual seminar since the last 10 years and this is one of the most important familiarisation trip for travel agents as it has definitely resulted in increased visitors from this important market. Moreover, this seminar has helped the travel agents to promote more aggressively in the UK market.”

DTCM Manager Missions Mr. Hamad bin Mejren represented the department and gave a presentation on the new developments in the emirate which was well received by the participants.

The number of Dubai hotel establishment guests from the UK was 458,451 in 2003 while during the first half of 2004, 281,919 guests visited Dubai.
