BSQUARE Announces Audio Manager for Windows Mobile

WEBWIRE

BELLEVUE, WA -- 12/14/2004 -- BSQUARE (NASDAQ: BSQR), a leading provider of smart device solutions, today announced the BSQUARE Audio Manager (BAM), a new solution for makers of Microsoft Windows Mobile-based devices that simplifies integrating audio peripherals with other essential phone subsystem components.

The BSQUARE Audio Manager is a development framework designed to reduce the complexity of implementing a complete audio solution on Windows Mobile devices. BAM speeds development by enabling code re-use, while also providing advanced audio functionality. It is a powerful solution for orchestrating the efficient management of audio peripherals and synchronizing the audio subsystem with the Radio Interface Layer (RIL) and operating system profiles.

BAM also synchronizes audio profile management to enable significant user-focused capabilities. Benefits include the ability to save profile information related to specific audio features such as handset, headset, and loudspeaker volumes, as well as the ability to seamlessly detect audio stream type and route to the desired path.

“BSQUARE’s Audio Manager makes Windows Mobile devices even smarter than before, so when users plug a headset into a Smartphone or Pocket PC Phone Edition, they have volume level control independent of the handset,” said Carey Butler, vice president of Professional Engineering Services, BSQUARE. “Our advanced audio features help OEMs and ODMs differentiate their mobile phones in a highly competitive marketplace.”

BSQUARE developed the solution to assist Windows Mobile device makers to efficiently manage the ever-increasing features, functionality and inherent complexities of device development such as the ability to listen to music and view broadcast TV on mobile phones.

“As a member of the Windows Mobile Systems Integrator partner program, BSQUARE is integral in helping device makers deliver Windows Mobile-based products with advanced multimedia features,” said Jane Gilson, group product manager, Mobile and Embedded Devices Division, Microsoft Corp. “BSQUARE’s Audio Manager Framework is a great example of this, providing a complimentary solution for Microsoft Windows Mobile device makers to ease device development time and effort.”

The BSQUARE Audio Manager is integrated into several next-generation designs that are scheduled to ship in 2005 from leading device makers. BSQUARE’s Audio Manager Framework is currently available to OEMs and ODMs for the internal integration into existing or new device designs.
