Tektronix Donates Oscilloscopes to 22 Oregon High Schools

Gift to Schools Designed to Help Foster Interest in Electronics, Cultivate the Next Generation of Engineers

BEAVERTON, Ore., April 2008– Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced that it is donating new oscilloscopes to 22 Oregon high schools as part the Tektronix Education Support Program (TESP), a company initiative to foster interest in physics and electronics within the local community, other regions of the country and around the globe.

“Tektronix is committed to supporting future generations of engineers who will be ready to design, develop and test new electronic solutions in the years ahead,” said Mike Rizzo, Director of Americas Marketing, Tektronix. “By supporting education we are contributing to the success of our communities. Through these donations, teens who are interested in electronics will have access to the tools they need to build a strong foundation of physics and other sciences.”

Tektronix is donating TDS1002 oscilloscopes to high schools in the following cities:

Albany (South Albany High School, West Albany High School)

Canby (Canby High School)

Corvallis (Crescent Valley High School)

Eugene (Willamette High School)

Hillsboro (Glencoe High School, Hillsboro High School)

Keizer (McNary High School in Keizer)

Lebanon (Lebanon High School)

Medford (North Medford High School)

Newberg (Newberg High School)

OregonCity (Oregon City High School)

Portland (Benson High School, David Douglas High School, Franklin High School, Sabin-Schellenberg Center)

Redmond (Redmond High School)

Salem (North Salem High School, South Salem High School, Sprague High School)

Springfield (Thurston High School)

Tillamook (Tillamook High School)

The oscilloscopes will be used in electronics, engineering, and physics classes as well as used to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at many of the schools.

“The opportunity for our students to work with test and measurement equipment from one of the world’s technology leaders is priceless,” said Steve Olczak, Principal, Benson High School in Portland . "This donation by Tektronix allows us to add more complex experiments to our science lab curricula, and will give our students an advantage when moving on to the next level of education.”

“Thanks to this donation by Tektronix, many of Oregon’s students can now work with the same electronics test equipment used by the world’s leading consumer electronics companies,” said Tom Thompson, Specialist, Industrial and Engineering Systems for the Oregon Department of Education. “The ability for our schools to offer hands-on experience in advanced subjects such as physics or electronics is greatly enhanced by the generosity of Tektronix.”

The TESP initiative also manages ongoing donations to several universities including Arizona State University,Montana State University, Oregon State University , Portland State University , University of Texas at Dallas, University of Washington as well as Jiao Tong University in China.
