Portfolio of Video Products Address Digital Video Delivery and Quality Challenges in the New Digital World

BEAVERTON, Ore., April 2008 - Tektronix, Inc., a leading, worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced the company will feature an extensive range of new and enhanced products and solutions at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2008 Conference, April 14-17, in booth N2520. Across its portfolio of solutions for SD, HD, MPEG and next generation compression technologies, Tektronix will show attendees industry leading Test & Measurement solutions for 3Gb/s high-speed SDI, Picture Quality Ana lysis, emerging content interchange challenges, and enhanced tools supporting Video over IP and IPTV design, deployment, and network management.

To enable the explosion of digital video, the content, delivery system, and end-user equipment must all be interoperable. Equally, the test needs are evolving for every point in the digital ecosystem. Tektronix is the video test expert, providing the broadest and most comprehensive video test and monitoring portfolio for existing analog and new digital video technologies at most every point in the video ecosystem, underpinning the video explosion.

New 3Gb/s Single Link SDI Support for Tektronix Waveform Monitors

New at NAB, Tektronix will showcase significant upgrades for its successful WFM and WVR series of waveform monitors and rasterizers including the addition of3Gb/s Single Link Serial-Digital-Interface (SDI)support to the WFM7020 and WFM7120 Waveform Monitors. This capability is added through two new options: a monitoring option (3G) for WFM7020 and WFM7120, and a Jitter measurement option (JIT) for the WFM7120. With the addition of 3Gb/s SDI support for monitoring 1080P 50/59.94/60 levels A and B HD video, the Tektronix Waveform Monitors http://www.tek.com/products/video_test/signal_monitors.html, made easy by the See and Solve™ user interface, provide the most precise, highly reliable, and broadest range of tools for every critical monitoring point in the digital video ecosystem.

Numerous additional features and enhancements are also being delivered across the entire Tektronix waveform monitor (WFM) and rasterizer (WVR) portfolio, enabling engineers to more efficiently verify video, audio, and ancillary data content, diagnose quality and physical layer signal quality problems, and store data for later analysis or documentation. For example, the monitors now support 2K XYZ color space formats, allowing users to diagnose errors introduced in format conversions more efficiently, and to ensure correct level and colorimetry.

New SD and HD Video and Audio Monitors Set New Price / Performance Benchmark

On display will be new value waveform monitors and rasterizers that offer the best price / performance in the industry and leading ease of use. The WFM4000 and WFM5000 waveform monitors and WVR4000 and WVR5000 rasterizers monitor video and audio content efficiently and effectively. The new units enable editors and operators to quickly and easily verify and adjust video and audio content from multiple signal sources. The 4000 Series supports standard definition (SD) video and the 5000 Series supports both SD and high definition (HD).

The new models share a similar user interface and menu structure with higher performance Tektronix waveform monitors, including the award winning WFM7120. The WFM models can operate on an industry standard 12v battery and are designed with portability in mind including an optional carrying case and bright, LED backlit display to facilitate outdoor use. Whether for a master control room, studio, editing bay, or an outside broadcast truck, the new 4000/5000 series Tektronix waveform monitors and rasterizers provide simplicity, efficiency, and affordability.

Enhanced MTM400A Transport Stream Monitor with New FlexVuPlusTM Enables Superior DTV and IPTV Service Quality

The new MTM400A MPEG Transport Stream Monitor enables broadcasters and network operators to detect signal degradation caused during transmission and distribution to find and diagnose errors more quickly, accelerating time to root cause resolution, to prevent viewers from experiencing loss of signal. The MTM400A features a powerful new FlexVuPlusTM user interface that leverages the deep measurement capabilities of the MTM platform to deliver greatly simplified DTV monitoring and diagnostics. The MTM400A with FlexVuPlus provides a configurable, common user interface for both confidence and diagnostic monitoring that improves communication handover between operator and engineer.

Technology Demonstrations Showcased at NAB

Tektronix will demonstrate four new technologies in its booth this year including support for emerging DTV standards - ISDB-TB in Brazil & DTMB in China; new PQA500 generator functionality the provides simultaneous SDI generation and capture; expanded capabilities for the TG700 Signal Generator Tools such as a 3Gb/s single link generator module and GPS master clock and synchronization system module; and Cerify 5.0 prototype applications for Dolby DP600 and Dolby-E support with added audio/video codecs including .wma and enhanced baseband tests.
