PopG Delivers Groove Anytime, Anywhere to Your Palm Handheld

WEBWIRE

OXFORD, UNITED KINGDOM -- 12/09/2004 -- PopG Ltd, the global provider of remote, web-based access to Groove Virtual Office, today announced that Palm Powered* handheld device users can now get real-time access to their Groove Virtual Office® data wherever they are.

This new PopG service, enabled via DDH Software’s ’Mobile-TS’ plug-in for the Palm operating system, provides Palm users with access to Groove discussion, database, e-mail, calendaring and project functions via their PopG account, helping users stay synchronized with the people and projects that are important to them -- even if they don’t have their laptop computers with them.

“We’re experiencing sharp increase in demand for our Groove service and, in particular, a growing demand for users to access their Groove information from handheld devices or cell phones,” said Andy Swarbrick, CEO of PopG. “Traditional knowledge workers are no longer tethered to their desks but can maintain and even increase productivity with access to their collaboration tools whenever and wherever they are. With this Web/wireless-only Groove service, any organization can use wireless-enabled Palm handhelds and other handheld devices to extend their Groove usage beyond desktop or laptop computers, helping users stay as connected to their Groove workspaces as they are to their daily email.”

Palm Handheld Remote Access and Synchronization with PopG

Mobile-TS enables Palm handheld users to remotely access their Groove accounts on PopG via a wireless connection. This lets users leverage all the powerful features of Groove Virtual Office from their Palm handheld devices, just as they would were they carrying their laptop computers. Moreover, normal Hotsync* enables users to synchronize messages, addresses, calendars and tasks from their Palm Powered device to their Outlook & Groove PopG accounts.

“I feel very strongly that handhelds in medicine combined with Groove and PopG could take mobile and point of service care to the next level. Given the appropriate development I could potentially store an entire practice worth of patient data or key facts on a Groove space to access via WiFi or GPRS as needed. I could take notes during rounds in the hospital and sync them back to my office before I have left the building,” said Kenneth Alleyne, MD.

Andy Burnett of KnowInnovation Ltd, added, “Groove has rapidly become a central part of how we run our business. Adding this mobile dimension will really help us stay on top of our projects.”

“PopG access via handheld devices exponentially expands the realm of possible solutions to develop more holistic and sustainable information sharing networks for peace-building, independent of geographic, internet connectivity or organizational boundaries,” said Sanjana Hottatuwa of Info-Share.org, a non-profit, peace-building organization in Sri Lanka.

“There is definite marketplace demand for this type of service,” said John Giudice, director of partner evangelism, Groove Networks. “Extending Groove functionality to commonly used PDAs has been a request from many of our prospects and customers. We’re very excited that PopG is addressing this need, and we look forward to working with them in promoting this service to our customers worldwide.”

PopG also supports the use of Groove on other handheld devices, including RIM* and Windows* CE/Pocket PC devices. With this additional support for Palm OS-based devices, PopG is extending its marketplace lead in providing Groove Virtual Office services to organizations worldwide that want to extend Groove usage to mobile workers who more often travel with handheld devices than a laptop computer.
