802.11g Upgrades Enable Whole House Coverage and Faster than Ever Throughput

DALLAS (Nov. 14, 2005) - As Wi-Fi becomes an embedded feature connecting more and more devices in the home, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) [NYSE:TXN] today announces G++TM technology which provides twice the range and 50 percent greater throughput over previous solutions. This new software is included in TI’s latest generation wireless LAN (WLAN) platforms targeting DSL, cable and voice gateways and consumer electronics shipping to leading manufacturers today.

“802.11g will continue to ship in healthy volumes, particularly in the residential gateway, consumer electronics, and mobile segments,” said Gemma Tedesco with In-Stat. “Companies like TI are offering best in class 802.11g technology to meet home networking market needs like range, rate and overcoming frequency interference. For consumers, this means extended indoor coverage across greater distances and through obstructions such as floors and walls.”

TI’s latest WLAN platforms for DSL, cable and voice gateways and consumer electronics include TI’s G++ technology to provide consumers with the extended reach and greater rates they demand, without sacrificing security or quality of service.

G++ technology features TX output power of 23dBM and industry-leading RX sensitivity and improves the robustness of the network, using unique techniques to minimize interference from products such as microwaves, cordless phones and neighboring wireless networks. The software also features an enhanced 125 Mpbs mode, enabling TCP/IP throughput of 36 Mbps in real world environments.

“TI is continuing to provide differentiated features to enable whole house coverage and enhance the consumers’ home networking experience,” said Dennis Rauschmayer, director of marketing for TI’s Residential Gateway and Embedded Systems group. “These features enhance TI’s current platforms, as well as its next-generation 802.11n residential gateway and consumer electronics offerings.”

TI’s G++ technology is available today on its latest generation WLAN platforms, which feature support of the latest security standards and flexible antenna options with up to four configurations. In addition, the combination of TI’s residential gateway with its USB dongle offering and G++ features provides manufacturers a valuable bundle offering for their customers.
