Kansas City, MO (December 4, 2007) – Compact Clinicals announced today an agreement with Dr. Robert Hirschfeld to exclusively represent his copyrighted Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) for publication worldwide. The MDQ is one of the most widely used diagnostic screeners for bipolar disorder, sometimes referred to as manic depressive disorder.

More than 2.3 million Americans suffer from bipolar disorder. Experts estimate there may be as many as 5 million more that are currently undiagnosed. Bipolar disorder is an invisible illness, and sometimes the stigma of having it is almost as difficult as the disorder itself.

Bipolar disorder is a mental illness highlighted by alternating episodes of mania and depression -- euphoric highs and desperate lows. Bipolar disorder may be overlooked by the patient, his or her friends and family, and sometimes even by health care professionals.

Based in Kansas City, Missouri, Compact Clinicals is a medical publisher of mental health books, assessment tools, and educational material developed in conjunction with globally prominent Key Opinion Leaders in their fields. Founded in 1995, Compact Clinicals has published the work of such leaders as C. Keith Connors, Dr. Russell Barkley, and Dr. John Newcomer among others. A complete list of materials can be viewed at www.compactclinicals.com.

Dr. Robert Hirschfeld is the Titus Harris Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He led the creation of the MDQ bipolar assessment. Hirschfeld is an internationally recognized authority on Bipolar disorder. He is the former chief of the National Institute of Mental Health’s Mood, Anxiety and Personality Disorders Research Branch. He is chairman of the American Psychiatric Association Workgroup on Treatment of Bipolar Disorder. His work has led to recognition, honors and awards from the National Association for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression, the National Depressive and Manic-Depressive Association, and the World Psychiatric Association.
