CSR reduces OEM time to market with industry-leading battery

Cambridge, UK – CSR plc (LSE: CSR) today announced that its BlueCore Player MP3 reference design will include a cost effective, rechargeable Lithium-Polymer battery from ATL. BlueCore Player already comes with a DSP, OLED screen, RISC processor and battery charger. By including the ATL battery as standard CSR eliminates the need for manufacturers to individually source components and thus reduces the time it takes manufacturers to bring a BlueCore Player product to market.

Based on BlueCore5-Multimedia silicon, BlueCore Player is designed for listening to music without cumbersome wires. Listeners can stream music wirelessly to Bluetooth stereo headphones and also control the player remotely from the headphones. Its 16-bit stereo CODEC ensures premium-quality audio. BlueCore Player also supports the Bluetooth audio video remote control profile (AVRCP), English, Simplified Chinese and Japanese characters, and audio menu navigation, meaning that the OLED screen can be omitted entirely to further lower costs. The total CSR solution provides the manufacturer with application software, hardware, software development kit, local technical support and design files including gerbers.

As supplier to all of the world’s leading brands in MP3, ATL’s Li-Polymer battery powers all of the world’s leading brands in MP3 players and ensures fast charging down to 30 minutes and long playback times up to 24 hours.

Joe Lam, Sales & Marketing VP of ATL commented. “BlueCore Player gives manufacturers a simple and cost effective method to enter the MP3 player market at a significantly reduced time to market. As such, we are expecting a significant uptake in the design and we see an explosion of low cost, Bluetooth-enabled devices on the market, based on BlueCore Player, within the next year.”

Tracy Hopkins, Vice President of CSR’s Consumer Business Unit commented, “ATL has been leading this market for quite some time. Its batteries are already well-proven in the market, as they give excellent standby and playback times and have shown themselves to be resilient and affordable. This should be another step on the way to making the BlueCore Player offering as simple as possible to implement.”
