Wakefield, Mass. - Nov. 07 2005 - Northeast Medical Center in Humble, TX, as part of it emergency department renovation project, will automate its new emergency department with the Ibex PulseCheck® emergency department information system (EDIS).

“We engaged a very comprehensive approach in evaluating emergency department information systems for clinical functionality and ease of use,” says Carla Maslakowski, Northeast’s chief information officer. “Ibex PulseCheck contained the functionality we required including patient tracking, physician and nursing documentation and interfaces to our Quadramed ADT and clinical systems. The system fits with our emergency department renovation plans to provide state-of-the-art systems and facilities for our patients.”

The newly renovated emergency department will open in the spring of 2006 and will include a larger waiting area for families and more patient treatment rooms. Other improvements include three rooms for major treatment/trauma, two for OB/GYN emergencies, 37 rooms for routine care and an entire area devoted to cardiac emergencies. In addition admission and registration services will be completed at the bedside and the ambulance capacity will be increased from two to seven bays to further improve the safety and efficiency of patients arriving by EMS or from other healthcare facilities.

“Ibex PulseCheck’s capabilities have been demonstrated in a number of hospitals throughout the country,” says Mark D. Crockett, M.D, F.A.C.E.P., president of Picis’ Emergency Care Division. “We are excited to add Northeast Medical Center to the 170 plus hospital emergency departments utilizing the comprehensive features of Ibex PulseCheck.”

Northeast Medical Center was established in 1977 and serves Northeast Harris, South Montgomery and West Liberty counties as well as the communities of Humble, Atascocita, Kingwood, Spring, Huffman, Crosby, New Caney, Porter, Livingston, Splendor and parts of North Houston. Its emergency department sees more than 40,000 patients each year.

Implementation of Ibex PulseCheck at the hospital will include patient tracking and reporting, physician and nursing documentation (with risk management) and interfaces to the facility’s ADT system, clinical data repository as well as laboratory, radiology and EKG clinical systems for order entry, status and results reporting. Facility billing and charge by documentation, prescription writer, scanning, voice recognition and the new Ibexpen to facilitate bedside charting will also be implemented.
