Sony Rolls A Lucky Seven In Vegas

Special Unveiling of the “Great American Super Car” Rocks SEMA

LAS VEGAS (SEMA Booth #11066), Nov 1, 2005 - The Sony XplMd® team is flexing its muscles at the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) trade show.

Attendees will see, hear and feel intense XplMd A/V systems, along with two muscle cars, a lower-than-low Ford truck, one heavily armored Hummer H2, a lightning fast Chevrolet Cobalt race car, and a Nissan 350Z import tuner.

“Xplod offers so many options for in-car entertainment that no two systems have to be alike,” said Andrew Sivori, general manager of Sony Electronics Mobile Electronics division “Our customers are all about creating never-before-seen designs and our product line-up offers the technology and style for extreme audio systems.”

Sony Hosts the Great American Super Car

Debuting center stage in the booth is a Baldwin/Motion iteration of a 1969 Camaro. This old-meets-new 700-hp SuperCoupe is updated with video technology from Sony’s XAV-A1 in-dash A/V center and two additional XVM-H65 monitors in the headrests. The sound is routed through three XM-SD22X two-channel amplifiers and one XM-SD61X subwoofer amplifier.

Back in Black

With his garage filling up, Bill Goldberg, former pro-wrestler and muscle car enthusiast is parking his black Dodge Dart in Sony’s booth for SEMA. This classic 1968 muscle car is keeping it real with its original super stock interior and bucket seats but the audio system is upgraded with products from XplMd Specialty Series line. The Dart’s dash has a CDX-7715X AM/FM CD/MP3 receiver playing through a pair of XS-S690CX 6 X 9 three-way speakers and a set of XS-D130SI component speakers. These speakers are powered by two XM-SD22X two-channel amplifiers. In the trunk, an XM-SD51X class D amplifier keeps the bass pounding through a single XS-LD105P5 10" subwoofer.

Dropped ’65 Ford Truck

It doesn’t get any lower than the1965 Ford F250. After its specialty suspension work was complete and its custom `cherry cola’ paint job dried, XplMd added the sound system. The dash shows off a CDX-F7715X AM/FM CD/MP3 receiver routed to a XM-SD22X two-channel amplifier. This lowrider is high on power with four XM-SD61X class D amplifiers matched to four XS-LD125P5 12" subwoofers.

And in This Corner ...

Weighing in at 10,000 pounds, Sony is taking no prisoners with its green Hummer H2. On the outside, it’s armed with a steel exoskeleton while the interior takes cues from the military. The four seats are patterned after a World War II bomber and a triangle design in the dashboard and doors resemble a stealth bomber. Inside the subwoofer enclosures, reminiscence of bomb casings, are two XS-LD125P5 12" subwoofers powered by two XM-SD61X class D mono subwoofer amplifiers.

The video command center of the H2 is comprised of three LF-X1 Location Free TVs, a KLV-21SG2 21" LCD television, six XVM-H65 video screens and the video display on the CDX-M9905X AM/FM CD/MP3 receiver.

The Heartbeat of Customization

The checkered flag is waving for the 2000 pearl orange Corvette convertible boasting a 650 hp super-charged engine. This Vette has an XAV-A1 in-dash A/V center with an XT-V70 TV tuner. The sound races through two sets of XS-D170SI component speakers and two sets of XS-W4021 two-way speakers. These speakers are tied to an XM-SD46X 4/3 channel amplifier. The trunk hosts four XS-LD105P5 10" subwoofers wired to four XM-SD51X class D mono subwoofer amplifiers, mounted in a custom fiberglass enclosure.

NHRA Sport Compact Race Car

You won’t find any XplMd equipment in this Chevy Cobalt because speakers, amps and subs would just slow it down. A 2.0 liter four cylinder Ecotec engine with a single Borg-Warner Turbo generates the sound in this car. Driven by Marty Ladwig in the NHRA Sport Compact Series, this front wheel drive drag car has registered 202.02 MPH on a quarter mile track.

Import Tuner

The electric blue Team XplMd Nissan 350Z returns to SEMA for an encore performance. Now updated, this car is loaded with five amplifiers from the XplMd Specialty Series product line. The sound is pumped out through three XS-LD125P5 12" subwoofers, two pairs of XS-W4021 and one set of XS-D170SI component speakers.

In the dash, enthusiast Sean Bennett installed CDX-M9905X AM/FM CD/MP3 receiver and a DVX-11A DVD player that plays back to two XVM-H65 video monitors and the video display on the receiver. And just for fun, there is a Sony DCR-DVD301 Handycam® camcorder mounted to the vehicle’s roll cage to record runs down the race track or cruising around town.
