Harris Corporation Showcases Newest Low-Cost Broadcast Solutions for Precision Video Test and Measurement at IBC2007

WEBWIRE

At IBC2007, Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, announces the European introduction of two low-cost options to its Videotek® test and measurement product line — the HD-STAR™ handheld HD/SD personal test monitor and generator, and the Videotek® VTM-2400 HD multiformat on-screen monitor. Both products are RoHS-compliant and available for shipment worldwide.

First introduced to the North American market at NAB earlier this year, both the HD-STAR™ and the VTM-2400 are designed to meet customers’ increasing demands for cost-effective test and measurement instruments without sacrificing functionality.

“HD-STAR™ is the only handheld product on the market that provides both an HD and SD test generator with monitoring and is ideal for HD and SD system integration and installation; broadcast, CATV and Telco signal verification; remote field production; and general video system maintenance markets,” said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. “The multifunction VTM-2400 allows customers to reap the benefits of our patented Videotek® VTM Series™ technology at a very affordable price point.”

HD-STAR™ is a rechargeable, handheld HD-SDI and SD-SDI video and audio monitor and video generator with embedded audio. Weighing less than a pound, the PDA-sized handheld performs multiple functions including color monitor, waveform monitor, vectorscope, serial data analyzer (CRC and EDH), audio analyzer/monitor and test signal generator. The test signal generator produces 11 test signals, including embedded audio tones that are adjustable in level and frequency. The integrated HD-STAR™ 320x240 color LCD display features touch-screen technology with stylus, and up to five different source IDs can be added to the video output. Power for the unit is provided by a Li-Ion rechargeable battery pack or an optional alkaline battery power source.

The 1RU VTM-2400 multiformat, on-screen monitor provides monitoring and measuring of HD-SDI (1080 and 720) signals. The output display includes video picture, waveform, vector and alarm status or optional audio — each in one quadrant of the screen or any element in a full-screen view. Easy to operate, the VTM-2400 features user setups stored in four presets for convenience. Alarms include Loss of Signal, Loss of Video, EDH (SD), CRC (HD), RGB Gamut, Peak Audio and Loss of Sound. The VTM-2400 is compatible with any XGA-capable monitor and provides an option for monitoring SD-SDI (525 and 625) signals. The VTM-2400 also offers an option to monitor up to four channels of analog, AES/EBU or embedded audio and an optional remote control panel.

The VTM-2400 and HD-STAR products are part of the media transport and core processing offerings in the Harris Broadcast Communications ONE initiative to deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The unique Harris approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
