WiMAX CPE Design, Networking Technology Choices to be Featured in NSDC Sessions.

Sunnyvale, California, October 12, 2005 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) will demonstrate its latest 10 Gigabit Ethernet evaluation board, built around the company’s newest and most powerful 10 Gigabit Ethernet single switch chip, at the annual Network Systems Design Conference (NSDC) in San Jose, October 18-20 (Parkside Hall - Booth #418).

The MB87Q3140 is a single-chip 10Gbps switch with an IEEE 802.3ae- and IEEE 802.3ak-compliant Ethernet MAC, high-speed interface macros and a CX-4/XAUI SERDES interface. It runs on a core clock speed of 312.5MHz and delivers an aggregate bandwidth of 240Gbps. The device can drive 25 meters of copper cable. It enables system designers to develop compact switches using high-performance, multi-ported memory, which can handle simultaneous read and write operations to and from a total of twelve 10Gbps ports supporting 802.3ad link aggregation with total bandwidth capacity of 240Gbps. The technology is ideal for advanced network server, blade server and storage applications.

Advanced TCA, which is based on PICMG 3.X, features a common backplane that supports a broad range of industry standards including 10 Gigabit Ethernet, InfiniBand, and PC Express. Targeted for use in high-end systems developed for carrier-grade markets along with IT and military applications, ATCA features a flexible switch fabric architecture that makes systems based on this standardized approach ideal for replacing more expensive, proprietary equipment.

WiMAX Development, 10 Gigabit Ethernet Featured in Conference Sessions

During the conference sessions, Reza Golshan, director of ASIC system development at Fujitsu Microelectronics, will present the design of a WiMAX subscriber station for operation in the 3.5GHz licensed band. The presentation will describe how Fujitsu’s SoC and software, which handle WiMAX MAC and PHY processing, form the heart of a low-cost CPE-modem design. The session, number 122, is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Fujitsu will also take part in two open session panels, including Session 302, entitled “Bus Wars: Which Interconnect Is Best for Networking Equipment, and Why” from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19. Asif Hazarika, senior marketing manager for FMA’s ASIC and Networking IC technology, will represent Fujitsu at the panel session, and also at Session 304 entitled “Which Technology Is Right for Networking Equipment (ASICs, FPGAs, Platform ASICs, Fixed-Function Chips, General-Purpose Processors or NP),” which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on October 19.
