Washington, DC - (July 1, 2007) - Genesis Poets Music, Inc., announced that the 3rd Annual DC Poetry Festival will be held at the Carter Barron Amphitheatre, in Washington, DC - Friday August 24, 2007 at 7:30 PM. Charlotte Fox, President of Genesis Poets Music, Inc. said, “This year our show is a “DC” Community effort. We are working with DC SCORES and The American Poetry Museum. The DC community will enjoy poets who are “home grown” some are “Def Poets” from the HBO show, while others are artist from the “U” Street Art Scene. This Art Scene is home to some of Washington’s hottest artists and is known as “Black Broadway” from the days of Langston Hughes and Duke Ellington: Genesis Poets Music, Inc. is a local Independent Record Label, born out of the “art” experience on “U” Street.

The feature Poets this year will be DC’s own POEM-CEES. Since 1998, POEM-CEES have combined rhyme, prose and community activism to emerge at the cutting edge of the vibrant Washington, DC Arts Movement. Naturalaw-dp & Black Picasso’s talents were forged in “Spoken Word.” Their debut cd “I.O.U. Street,” pays homage to the soul of DC’s “U” Street Art Scene.

For the past 12 years, DC SCORES has supported over 3000 of the District’s elementary students located in over 22 under-resourced Washington, D.C. public and charter schools by teaching the fundamentals of teamwork, leadership and commitment.
This year our new partner, the American Poetry Museum (APM) a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating this nation’s diverse poetic traditions using written and spoken poetry as an educative tool.
