Logitech and Carl Zeiss Announce Collaboration to Improve Webcam Image Quality

WEBWIRE

Logitech (SWX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI), the world’s leading manufacturer of webcams, and Carl Zeiss, one of the world’s leading optics companies, today announced an exclusive collaboration to deliver unparalleled image quality for video calling and sharing.

Carl Zeiss’s exclusive relationship with Logitech marks a significant step in the development of webcam optics. Carl Zeiss has been driving optical innovation since the earliest days of photography. Logitech released its first webcam in 1995 and has been a major force in the development of webcam technology since the inception of video communication over the Internet. Together, Carl Zeiss and Logitech promise to create a new standard for webcam image quality.

The first webcams designed in collaboration with Carl Zeiss – the Logitech® QuickCam® Pro 9000 and the Logitech® QuickCam Pro for Notebooks – are expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe in July for a suggested retail price of $99.99 (U.S.).

“Image quality is only as good as the lens that captures the image,” said Dr. Scherle, general manager of the Carl Zeiss Camera Lens division. “Since 1846, when Carl Zeiss set up his workshop, our company has been driving the science of optics. Today, we design optics ranging from eyeglass lenses to space optics. Working with Logitech gives us the opportunity to reach markets and applications that nobody would ever have imagined twenty years ago.”

“The incredible boom in broadband adoption is making video communication more and more accessible to people of all ages,” said Gina Clark, general manager and vice president of the Logitech’s Internet Communications business unit. “Though Logitech has been delivering innovative webcam technology for more than 10 years, we’re thrilled to be working with Carl Zeiss, a company with more than 160 years of experience making great lenses. The first webcams with Carl Zeiss optics, the QuickCam Pro-series webcams, offer truly amazing detail and clarity.”
