The Press Association to become PA Group

The Press Association Limited is to change its name to PA Group Limited as it implements a strategy of becoming a leading international information provider.

The change of name follows the recent acquisition of worldwide weather forecasting business Meteo Consult and the development of sales operations across Asia. These developments build on the group’s existing international operations which are centred on CNW Group, Canada’s leading news distribution company.

The new name, PA Group Limited, utilises the established PA name, which is recognised as shorthand for The Press Association, and communicates the scope of the organisation as a group of companies with a wide range of products and services.

The Press Association brand will continue to be used as the name for the group’s news agency operation. This will maintain the heritage of The Press Association as the national news agency of the UK and Ireland and a part of the fabric of the UK’s media industry.

Outside the agency operation, the group’s other main divisions PA Sport, PA Business, PA Entertainment and PA Group Photos will be linked to the PA Group brand through name and graphic identity. This gives the divisions a clear relationship with the wider group.

Sir Harry Roche, Chairman of PA Group, said: “The group’s expansion into a diversified information business has seen it outgrow The Press Association name. The PA Group brand will lead the group forward in its international focus.”
