A CALL FOR COMPASSION AND ACTION

Sept. 8, 2005 (Scottsdale, AZ) --- The publisher and editor-in-chief of The Church Report, a national business and news magazine for pastors and ministry leaders, is urging readers and partners worldwide to join in the massive relief efforts now underway for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

“What I’ve witnessed over the past several days has led me to make an urgent request to my readers, clients, vendors, contributors, and media colleagues to make helping these desperate people a priority,” says editor and publisher, Jason T. Christy. Christy has created a special link on www.thechurchreport.com to help raise funds to rebuild St. Mark’s Church, a congregation in Gulfport, Mississippi that was devastated by the storm.

On the Sunday morning after the hurricane, the congregation held services with members seated on patio chairs on the slab where their church once stood. “That was a sight that moved me and jolted me into immediate action,” recalls Christy. “I want to commit my efforts and those of my readers to making measurable changes and creating immediate impact in the community of Gulfport and in St. Mark’s Church.”

Christy has set up CR CARES: Compassionate Aid Response to Emergency Survivors, a special link located at the top of The Church Report website. In addition to the other contributions they make to relief efforts, readers and visitors to the site are invited to donate specifically to the rebuilding of St. Mark’s in Gulfport. “Imagine if all 40,000 subscribers to The Church Report each contributed $5 to the campaign to help these brothers and sisters in Christ,” explains Christy. “We could raise over $200,000!”

Christy will stay in direct contact with the congregation in the weeks ahead to follow their progress, address their changing needs, and update readers of The Church Report on the progress of the rebuilding efforts. These matters will be documented in the next 12 issues of the magazine.

In addition, The Church Report will donate $5 from every new subscription it receives over the next month.

“It is my hope that The Church Report will be able to contribute over $300,000 and that our readers will be able to take great joy in seeing the new St. Mark’s Church rise from the rubble and destruction of Hurricane Katrina,” he says. “Our campaign will culminate next year when we feature the newly built St. Mark’s Church on the cover of The Church Report. That will be a special issue many of our readers will keep for years as a reminder of God’s faithfulness.”
