Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced the expansion of its Application Partner Program to feature its new OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, inviting third-party software developers to collaborate with Alcatel-Lucent to deliver a complete enterprise mobility management and security system.

The OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, announced today, is a revolutionary laptop security and management system developed to secure, monitor, manage and locate a mobile computer, and to destroy its data if it is lost or stolen. The OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian leverages broadband networks to let enterprises manage laptops anywhere, anytime, even when the computer is turned off.

A key element in the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian is a PCMCIA 3G card with a complete processor, memory, operating system and power source. This powerful computing capability is designed to allow simple and seamless integration with third parties and provides application partners with a unique way to offer enterprises business critical applications and features for mobile laptop computers – making their applications always-on and more secure.

The Alcatel-Lucent Application Partner Program for the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian is open for companies with solutions in the area of laptop security and management, such as patch management, asset and configuration management, backup and recovery, network access control, encryption, data protection, end point security, and two factor authentication. Absolute Software, EMC, Patchlink, and SafeBoot are currently working with Alcatel-Lucent to build unique enterprise solutions in these areas.

The joint solution with Absolute Software enables enterprises to locate and recover stolen laptops by integrating the always-on OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian with Absolute’s software. EMC and Alcatel-Lucent are working on a solution that plans to leverage EMC information protection for efficient backup of laptop data, even when the system is turned off. When the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian is deployed together with Patchlink software, enterprises can patch laptops in real-time, even when the laptop is turned off, by storing the patches in the memory of the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian. And, the integration with SafeBoot allows enterprises to remotely delete encryption keys on stolen laptops, making the data unusable in case of theft or loss.

“The OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian represents the best way yet to manage the increasing threat of data theft due to a laptop being hacked or stolen when it’s outside the enterprise,” said Tom Burns, President of enterprise solutions activities, Alcatel-Lucent. “Even so, we recognize that our customers are best served by the most complete management and security capabilities available and that’s where Alcatel-Lucent Application Partners will help us to stay ahead in this rapidly changing market. These partners are the first of more to come bringing business critical offers to enterprises.”

Alcatel-Lucent works with its community of application partners to build, integrate and promote applications across Alcatel-Lucent’s complete portfolio of solutions for enterprises. As a result, customers benefit from a rich and reliable source of extended solutions that are certified by Alcatel-Lucent and the partners.
