The Maple Staple to Showcase Charlotte Thiemecke-Floyd’s “The Furry Loves of My Life” at the 78th Frankfurt Book Fair

Some life stories are measured in careers and accomplishments. Others are remembered through the lives shared along the way. At the 78th Frankfurt Book Fair, The Maple Staple will showcase “The Furry Loves of My Life: A Lifetime Impact: Lessons Learned from My Rescued Pets” by Charlotte Thiemecke-Floyd, Ed.D., a memoir that brings together decades of personal history through the animals who became an enduring part of the author’s life. The book will be presented at Hall 5.1, Stand D86, at Messe Frankfurt from October 7–11, 2026, alongside a selection of other works.

“The Furry Loves of My Life: A Lifetime Impact: Lessons Learned from My Rescued Pets” is a true account of twenty-seven dogs and two cats whose lives intersected with Thiemecke-Floyd’s own. Rather than treating their stories simply as a collection of pet memories, the memoir records the people, agencies, veterinarians, and technicians who played roles in saving and caring for the animals. Dr. Scott Jones of the Northbrook Animal Clinic receives particular acknowledgment for encouraging Thiemecke-Floyd to fulfill her long-held dream of bringing these experiences into book form. Because the memoir is rooted in factual events, real individuals and organizations are identified by their true identities, giving the narrative the character of both personal remembrance and documented life experience.

For Thiemecke-Floyd, that habit of preserving memories began early. Inspired as a young girl by the Nancy Drew mysteries of Carolyn Keene, she initially imagined fictional plots but eventually found greater meaning in recording the factual events unfolding around her. Those saved fragments, photographs, and records ultimately became part of the foundation for “The Furry Loves of My Life: A Lifetime Impact: Lessons Learned from My Rescued Pets”. The result is a reflective animal memoir about companionship, responsibility, gratitude, loss, and the lasting imprint of creatures that may enter a life for a time but remain in memory long afterwards.

With degrees in music from Northwestern University, Charlotte Thiemecke-Floyd, Ed.D., pursued a varied professional path that included music supervision in the Evanston, Illinois, schools and performances with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Her musical career later took her to Germany’s Wuerzburg Stadttheater before she returned to the United States to pursue work with the Chicago Opera Theatre. She also taught fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-graders in Northbrook, Illinois, and eventually served as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in the same district.

Through its presentation at Frankfurt Book Fair, The Maple Staple will introduce “The Furry Loves of My Life: A Lifetime Impact: Lessons Learned from My Rescued Pets” to an international literary audience while highlighting a memoir grounded in real experiences and a lifelong bond with rescued animals.
