Macrovision Announces Licensing Agreement with Scientific Atlanta

WEBWIRE

Macrovision Corporation (NASDAQ: MVSN) today announced an agreement with Scientific Atlanta, a Cisco company, to enable Scientific Atlanta to integrate Macrovision’s digital home media solution into several Scientific Atlanta platforms, including cable/IP set-top boxes, cable modems, residential gateways and WiMax modems. The agreement is intended to advance the development of next-generation consumer devices that can enable the convergence of content on connected home devices.

The growth in the amount of high-quality content available on the Internet has driven a greater demand for connected entertainment devices that can provide consumers with access to more digital content throughout the home. Currently most consumers are limited to storing and viewing digital media content on a personal computer. However, manufacturers are quickly adopting technologies to bridge the gap between the PC and other consumer electronic devices, such as digital televisions and cable set-top boxes.

Macrovision’s digital home media solution is designed to enable Scientific Atlanta to create and customize cutting-edge wired and wireless digital home products with the capability of managing content across the home network environment. In addition, cable operators and service providers would be able to use Scientific Atlanta’s products to provide a more complete media networking solution to their subscribers.

“Our recent Mediabolic acquisition has positioned Macrovision’s technology as a powerful platform for developing connected consumer products,” said Fred Amoroso, president and CEO of Macrovision. “Our agreement with Scientific Atlanta demonstrates the robustness of our technology to protect, enhance and distribute high-value media content throughout the home on a variety of devices. Scientific Atlanta’s advanced set-top box and networking product portfolio, powered by Macrovision’s technology, will help provide service providers with the tools they need to create a truly interoperable network that will allow consumers to access and enjoy digital entertainment whenever and wherever they want.”

Macrovision’s flexible digital home media architecture offers a comprehensive connectivity solution for the development of customizable products with the capability of streaming music, photos and video from PCs and networked storage devices to set-top boxes and other consumer devices.
