His memoir, “Dreaming in Dijon and the Aftermath,” follows the strange coincidences that led him to the house and the adventures that came after the purchase. There are confusing journeys, renovation problems, household disasters, and plenty of moments when helpful villagers came to the rescue.

Alan Shattock is an English-born medical scientist who has lived and worked in Ireland for decades. Before entering travel writing, much of his work appeared in scientific journals and publications about motoring and motor-racing history. “Dreaming in Dijon and the Aftermath” is his first travel memoir. Today, he describes his life as being divided somewhere between Connemara, Ireland, and France.
