Jordyn Woods’s Lucky Knicks Championship Bag Comes to the Guggenheim New York

NEW YORK, NY – WEBWIRE
  • On view for a special five-day pop-up at one of the New York’s most iconic spaces
  • Celebrating this cultural moment of joy and unity, the Guggenheim, Jordyn Woods, and Karl-Anthony Towns offer the public an opportunity to see the “lucky bag”

As the city celebrates the New York Knicks’ historic win, the Guggenheim commemorates this moment by welcoming fans from around the world to see Jordyn Woods’s iconic “lucky bag” in person. The Woods by Jordyn Tux Clutch Mini bag, which became a viral good luck charm during the basketball team’s thirteen-game winning streak and final game five victory, will be on view at the museum for five days only.

This June sparked celebrations across New York, as the Knicks were crowned 2026 NBA champions, marking a historic moment not only for the team and fans, but for the nation as a whole. Designed by Woods herself, the purse transformed from a courtside accessory into an emblem of hope for Knicks fans, who embraced it as a symbol of the team’s success. Last week, the bag was featured at the Knicks’ ticker-tape parade and was held by Mayor Zohran Mamdani during the celebratory moment, cementing its status as a cultural artifact of the championship season.

“New York City means so much to Karl and me, so being able to lend a piece of history—and luck—back to the city is truly an honor. The Guggenheim is one of my favorite places, and I never imagined that something I designed would one day be on view at the museum. So many of us are still in shock over the Knicks’ historic run, and seeing the lucky bag at the Guggenheim somehow makes it all feel real,” said Woods.

“When I heard Karl-Anthony Towns say that maybe the lucky bag should come to the Guggenheim, I was thrilled,” said Mariët Westermann, Director and CEO, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation. “People have always found meaning in objects that embody profound cultural moments, and they often go to great lengths to see them. That is one reason museums exist. Like art, basketball at the stratospheric level of the Knicks thrives on discipline, creativity, and teamwork—and on bringing people together. We are so grateful to Jordyn and Karl for trusting us with the bag she designed. In this unforgettable moment in New York history, we can’t wait to share it with fans and museum visitors from around the world. Just think about it—this bag is the first ever clutch that actually became clutch.”

The Tux Clutch Mini bag will be on display at the Guggenheim New York’s Café Rebay from June 24 through June 28, giving visitors the chance to be part of the joyful moment surrounding this historic win.

This presentation builds on the Guggenheim’s ongoing exploration of the relationship between art, culture, and sport. At its 2025 Gala, which honored both the NBA and NBPA alongside Rashid Johnson, the museum highlighted the shared values of discipline, innovation, and resilience that unite artists and athletes. This dialogue is also reflected in the Guggenheim’s collection through key works that engage with basketball, such as Lin Yilin’s Monad (2018) and Tschabalala Self’s Sprewell (2020).

The Guggenheim continues to embrace New York’s global summer of sports. Also on view is a presentation of Zidane, a 21st century portrait (2006)—a film portrait centered on the French soccer star Zinédine Zidane by Douglas Gordon (b. 1966, Glasgow) and Philippe Parreno (1964, Grenoble, France). The museum is also hosting a pop-up World Cup activation at its Wright Restaurant—rebranded as Frank’s Pub, which livestreams select soccer matches on Friday afternoons.
